Can anyone here recommend me any farm sitters? Or recommend companies that specialise in this kind of thing?

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be most grateful.

What area are you in? I guess it depends on what sort of farm I.e. smallholding or commercial property. If its a smallholding then word of mouth will generally find you someone reliable. What area are you in?

I do quite a lot of house sitting but you'd have to relocate to south devon first! :-) normally if you ask about with friends or people in similar properties they might be able to recommend someone. All my housesitting work comes through word of mouth.

Often there are ads in tack shops/feed merchants.

Or contact local riding club/pony club.

A lot of horsesitters end up dealing with the supplemental farm animals and as long as sheep arent lambing/shearing time they shouldnt be too much of a prob if they have a can do approach.

After an op my horsesitters are currently also caring for my 20 sheep, 6 geese, 2 dogs, 3 cats and 3 chickens...they also millk goats :-))

I have seen a couple in tack shops etc but they often seem like just an individual doing them. We'd need them to br CRB checked and insured because of the nature of some of the stuff we have here, so was ideally looking for a company who specialise in it.

We use this company

Preseli Animal Homecare They offer a high standard of pet sitting services, caring for all creatures, great or small, in the comfort of their own homes, farms or small holdings.”

We are in West Wales We find them excellent reliable and very competant they are CRB checked
We have 5 horses 3 dogs and farm cats They do get booked up though

Have a look at their website. We highly recommend them

I used to do my friends for them, they had 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses, 11 sheep and rabbits, chickens, peacocks and I'm sure some other stuff I have forgoten. I have a crb as well so they are out there but I'm the other side of the country from you.

Definitely check them out thoroughly before you use whoever though.
When my OH was at uni he worked assisting a plumber to earn some money, and one place they were replacing all the pipework as the 'housesitting company' had emptied the house of all its contents, including all the copper piping, light fittings, doors, radiators, and so on

Ok I'm obviously being daft here. I thought CRB checks were for people working with or around children. Why do pet and livestock carers need one.

CRB's are for people working with children or vulnerable adults, I have a few CRB's as each organisation needs their own, nothing to do with looking after animals but from other things I do.

Yes sorry knew it included vulnerable adults. Just that the thread was about animal care, so I was a bit puzzled. Wondered if I needed to ask my animal care helper if she had one.

Oh sorry :o. I thought that there was something else going on at the farm that means that said person would need one that by the sounds of it OP wasnt willing to discuss on here, nothing to do with the animals. Willing to be correctd by OP though if thats not the case.

Well firstly, a farm sitter would have to have the keys to our farm. A CRB check would obviously help route out those who might be light fingered/fraudulent etc.
Secondly, my OH is a police officer, so there are sometimes "things" around the house so not as a matter of course, but as a matter of personal preference - I'd prefer to have a very good knowledge of who was in our home. :)

We have used Animal Aunts who cover the whole country for about 7 years. Always been very happy with them. They are CRB'd and insured. They have lots of people available so they can always cover even if eg you have to stay away longer than expected. Price depends on what animals they have to look after.

I house/yard sit for my friend, 30 horses, diabetic dog, 2 cats :) I am in NYorks if anyone needs someone :) I am very reasonable ;) only do the overnights though (staff do the mucking out etc). Cushy side of house sitting ;)

I have used Animal Aunts in the past .They are good but the prices rack up as they charge an amount on top of the basic for every animal they do.
The farm sitter I use now www.preselianimalhomecare.co.uk. charge a flat rate regardless of what they do .Last year I added one more horse and one more dog and the charge was exactly the same .Their view is they are already there it is irrelavent whether it is 2 dogs or 3 dogs .
They were about one third of the price of Animal Aunts who I agree are good but these are also fully insured and CRB checked.
I have found them professional and experienced .The sitter had to deal with a sick dog and sorted it all out vets visits and medication etc.
Poulticed a hoof abcess which broke out the day before I left for a 2 week holiday .I came back to a sorted sound horse.
