Did you hose them to clean them off and cool them? I would think he will have fat knees tomo, and poss be stiff. I'm not a vet but maybe he needs to stay in and have a bit of bute, would see what your vets say first thing tomo. He may also have tweaked his neck / back etc.
My horse went down on the road with me on him, he was very sore in his neck and back. He had time off for about a week, no schooling, just gentle work to keep him supple. He had knee boots on tho so didn't skin his knees. Did skin his fetlocks tho so I hosed his front legs to take down the swellings.
If your boy is sound then hopefully he will be fine, if he is hopping lame get the vet out. Hope hes ok.

TL hun, he will have frightened the life out of himself when he fell badly and hurt his knees. He will have thought that a crocodile did it when he wasn't looking so his adrenaline will have been off the scale and his barging you and zooming out of the stable was fright only -don't take it personally poppet. What he needs is calm understanding and plenty of tlc while his knees mend. That way he'll know you will help him watch out for crocodiles. Hope you're ok though coz until you've been slammed into a wall by half a ton of frightened horse, you don't realise how bruised you can be.

With his battered knees, is he weight bearing on front legs? Any sign of lameness? As long as you're certain that the injury doesn't go through to the joint capsule, I'd gently sponge any dirt out of the wounds, carefully cold hose them a few times a day and slap some sudocream on to keep the scraped areas clean and mud-free. If he likes to be mollycoddled in his stable, it wouldn't hurt to keep him in for a day or two but otherwise I'd turn him out. I wouldn't bute him so he remembers his knees hurt and doesn't do anything daft!

I hope your OK and not too bruised. I second everything box of frogs says, cold hose for swelling and something to keep the dirt out and for cleanliness.

Hopefully your poorly boy will be OK tomorrow and just feeling a tad sorry for himself x

when i collected vinnie at 5 months old he jumped out of his stable on the first night and landed and skidded on the concrete yard on his knees for about 6 yards.

I was really worried he had done permanent damage as the cuts were quite deep but he was totally sound throughout.

As he was pretty unhandled i couldn't bathe or hose his legs so swiped Dermoline over them morning and night and they healed very quickly.

he is now a 4yro and you couldn't guess what he had done as there are absolutely no marks or scars or even white hairs (he has jet black legs).

A product called DermaGel. Clean wound put gel on and cover with gause. It works like nothing I've seen before

Dermagel definately, but I'd not bother with the gauze - it needs to be clean and let the air get to it, just like when you were a kid and did your own knees! My lad took a mightly tumble on the road earlier this year and skinned both knees really badly. A bute that night and just kept clean with dermagel for a day or two. Once they dry up and scab don't put anything on them. The vet was on the yard the week after my lad fell and I asked him to have a look, he said nothing to worry about except that the hair probably wouldn't grow back. I used megatek once the skin was dry and scab free and apart from a tiny little bit of baldness which is actually covered over with longer hair above it (think comb over!) you wouldn't know what had happened!

vet advice and.... it seemed a lot better today his knees swelled up a lot but skin is just grazed walked trotting up was fine vet said hose knee down cream and turnout fine ( he loves being out ) says hair will probs grow back white though ... i called my boy a wuss .... maybe im the bigger one

If he is tripping on a regular basis then it could be possibly because his toes are too long but that would be suprising if he tripped a week after new shoes.
