Today we followed a trailer carrying two horses down the A1, one of the horses was continually biting at the others head and neck in the short time we followed, it bothers me even now, hours later, the attacking horse could have been tied up shorter, but the victim couldn't get out of the way, I suggested to my OH that we alert the driver in some way, cos this horse meant to hurt, but OH just said the driver could probably feel the movement in the trailer, if mine was behaving like that I would want to know, I have visions of the victim arriving all bitten and bloodied and it's still on my mind hours later, thoughts please
 
Lots of horses do this in the trailer or lorry .
I certainly would not have been trying to alert the driver .
You can't feel it when you are towing Fatty is very naughty in the trailer I never knew till I drove behind the trailer one day .
 
When one of mine goes to dressage, she always travels with the same horse and they always fight and bite each other. Just nipping, but pretty constant for the journey unless they're on a bumpy road or spot something. They always turn up fine.
 
Mine does this every time we travel, his party piece is to actually remove the headcollar of the horse next to him . I never tie up as I prefer to travel my horses loose with headcollars on. His finest moment was removing my other horses headcollar and posting it through the small side window! Well thats the only thing I can think of as I loaded 2 horses both with headcollars on, and when I came to take him off 2 hours later........ he was wearing his headcollar, his friend however wasnt, and it wasnt in the trailer! From behind he looks as tho he is irritating the horse next to him, but both seem fine about it. I hate the head dividers as a friends horse managed to get his head round the divider and caused a lot of damage to himself.
 
The ones in the UK must be very different to the ones we have in Australia then? No one here really travels without them here. But our trailers look very different to yours too.

Removing the headcollar & posting it through the window?! That's hilarious! 😝
 
Mine bicker in the trailer. Usually starts by eating each others hay and having a bit of a nip. I don't like to tie any shorter as I like them to be able to move about to balance if they want to. They don't seriously go at each other, they never have any marks on and they always seem perfectly happy so I just leave them to it. I can see them through the front window so I would know if it required intervention.
 
Mine and a friends play fight in the trailer and steal each others hay, its friendly and doesn't cause any wobbles so we leave them be! My poor horse did once get undressed by another horse while in the trailer, he removed his bridle and headcollar!!! Said other horse now travels with a head guard if travelling with mine or a friends as he rocks the trailer also...
