Sorry, if this is a young horse then i actually don't think you are making the right decision having him PTS. I cannot believe all vets fees monies have run out diagnosing this condition (unless you only had about £500 limit!?!). If this were my horse I would be looking at using my credit card or having an agreement with the vet to pay monthly to cover the costs. So many horses have this surgery now and go on to lead pefectly useful working lives. My sister's friends horse had the op less than 2 years ago and is competing Novice eventing now - he is 9.
I think it's a shame some people are so willing to give up on horses when others are prepared to put so much in to help them. I can't see anyone's going to want to take him on with the condition and I would imagine his behaviour is mainly down to him being uncomfortable.
