Horse for sale - too good to be true?

Hi there!

I just found a horse for sale online that I've fallen in love with.
I noticed however in the videos they've uploaded the horse has had its tail cut incredibly short, just below the dock.
The horse is also swishing its tail a lot in every single clip. It doesn't seem agitated or in pain, and is riding around nicely.
But I worry I may not get the truth from the seller if I were to ask. The horse also seems relatively cheap for its ability and appearance... maybe too good to be true?

Anyone have any ideas about what could be the cause of this? And why a tail would need to be cut so incredibly short? Never seen anything like it!

Thanks,
Trixy

Constant tail swishing can indicate pain I would be wary, the short tail could be due to it being chewed as already mentioned or the horse may have caught it on something.

Not a dealer, a private seller. I enquired, but turns out theyve already accepted a deposit on the horse from someone else! Thanks for your responses x

I see the horse has already had a deposit put down but will share my story incase anyone searches.
my TB’s tail was just below the dock when I bought her. She had injured it, it got infected and all the hair had fallen out and it was just growing back. She had a lot of white hair growing through it so assume the story was right enough. Weirdly she loved her tail being played with so I taught myself how to pleat on her.

A friends horse had his tail eaten by goats.

Lucky escape. I think the majority of tail swishers are in pain somewhere and most of the rest have temperament issues.

I know of a dealer who knots the tails in a way that makes it look like it's been cut really short - might have been that? Either way tail swishing is a big no no for me.
