Horse found dead after dog attack...

How dreadful is that. My fields also have a public footpath running through them and I have had had more than one run in with inconsiderate and plain stupid people. We now have cameras on them and I can be up there in less than a minute if I see a problem.

we have footpath running through our fields scary to think that somethin like that can happen as have seen people walk there dogs through with no leads on.

We have exactly the same problem, a footpath cuts straight across the middle of the field and people often walk right round the perimeter! My mums mule can no longer be turned out in that field because he is not 100% trustorthy with dogs he doesn't know.
If he injured or killed a dog we would be sued to the ends of the earth. We are acting responsibley, what a pity the owners of the dog didn't extend the same common sense, poor little baby, how very sad and a totally avoidable waste of life

That is absolutely awful, that poor little youngster. The owners of the dog should be shot. So very sorry for the youngster and their owners, such a tragedy.

we have a few horses that dont like the dogs, mine included, she's been bit by dog before and bit the dog back!!....strange dog never went near her again!!

............that said would still prefer that dog owners kept there dogs on the leads as would hate for anythin like that to happen at our yard, have already lost my youngster to a fatal injury not caused by dog though.

I expect it was a pack of dogs rather than a single one. A pony at our yard was attacked by dogs and was only saved by the fact that the grooms were about to beat them off! I've heard of another miniature pony whose throat and face were ripped very severely (she recovered, thank God) by the YARD dogs (not our yard).
Poor baby

Hope the owners of the dog(s) are strung up by the b*ll*cks!!

Poor thing.
Mind you no-one here knows if the dog was/wasnt accompanied, he could have escaped or he could be a roaming dog.
Sad because people blame the dog, and its not its fault. RIP little horsey x

Thats horrid. To only know that the poor neddy was a year old makes it even worse.
Poor thing wouldn't have known what hit it.
The owners should be found and made accountable for their dogs actions.
Problem is it will be the dog that will take the punishment if found.
My thoughts go out to the owners of the said horse.

That is awful, we do not know the facts i.e. if it was 1 dog or several, if its owner was present or it was a stray? If the owner was present then its a damn shame the horse could not get its own back and kick the hell out of the dog or owner. If they were not present I think they should be more responsible. This dog is clearly vicious and needs to be destroyed or muzzled

So sad, poor horse, things like this really upset me. As for the dog, it makes me wonder what the owner must be like. The dog shouldn't be blamed, it was only doing what its owner was telling it to do. However on saying that, it would def need to muzzled & on leash every time its out.
There are some very sick people out there.

that is just terrible!!!

JJ lost her beloved horse after being bitten by a dog the owners were seen letting the dog into chase and PLAY!!!!! with the horses after months of vetinery care he had to be pts!!

This is just so cruel and nasty this baby must have been so terrified poor wee mite, when oh when will humans regard ALL animals with the same rights as us???

We have a lot of dogs/ owners where I live, all of whom are responsible around any kind of livestock bar one family who ended up being reported to the police following sheep killing earlier this year. They felt it was quite normal to let their dogs out to roam. (Better since police action)
Above our beach is a small herd of six Shetland ponies, including foals and pregnant mares. One night late last year, I came home to find said dogs in my garden, and could not track down owners- house was locked up and in darkness. One of the dogs was limping so I took them in, after leaving note in owners letterbox. Three hours later she appeared to collect them- "oh yes, the dogs had run off from her husband when he was walking them that afternoon". We explained that one of them was limping/ stiff and might need looked at by a vet in the morning if she was no better. The response I got shocked me to the core-
"Oh she's probably been up barking and playing around the ponies again and been kicked." Said so matter-of-factedly as if that was a perfectly acceptable thing to let your dogs do.
I was too stunned to say anything at the time but wish I had. We have two dogs that we walk down to the beach daily but if the ponies are anywhere near our route, we take a different one. So many animals get injured, or worse, by the irresponsible behaviour of people and it gives other dog owners a bad name. We live in Scotland and have the Right to Roam legislation but there are those that abuse the privilige and ruin it for everyone else.
Incidentally, the field where the 3 sheep were killed (funny that their dogs were out roaming that morning too..) is one where my horse would be from time to time- luckily though he was elsewhere at the time.
Sorry, rant over but things like this make my blood boil!

Our local paper says it was a knife wound that killed thhe horse. He had bites as well. It was tethered so couldnt have got away, it was a lovely skewbald cob.
Thats two horse attacks in the area this year!
