Hi I'm a new by who needs advice! Horse got away in his field after being taken through gate, ran off and slipped over and face went into electric fence (2 strands on his nose and upper face).noons could get near him after that. Took me 10 days to take his rain sheet off and it was getting to be very hot weather. Had lots of help from friends and he has had his head collar on and off a couple of times and will tolerate quite a bit of fussing now. Worrying about farrier coming as his shoes are very worn. Don't know if we can lead him out of field yet. L,pads of problems. Anyone experience of this or can give guida nice where to go he!xt. He is 14 year old 16hh kwpn.

Hi, poor boy, your fence must pack quite a punch! Do you have a stable? I'd bring him in, start working him again - basically carry on as usual, give him something else to think about. If you can get a headcollar on him, that's great, can you lead him out of the field the first time with a field mate? Did he get away by being rude, or did something scare him? Either way, I'd do some groundwork with him, he shouldn't just bog off. Michael Peace books/videos are very helpful. Good luck!

Would you consider having his shoes taken off while he regains confidence? The farrier should be willing to do that in his field.
Our most sensitive mare touched an electric fence when coming over to me - and was sure it was my fault, even though I wasn't very close. It took her several months to get over this and it wasn't that bad an experience compared with what your poor boy experienced.
I dealt with it by trying to avoid situations that reinforced a negative reaction to me, like reaching over a fence to stroke her. Like you I fussed her close up.
Good luck
