Okay, never done it before but thought it would be nice to have a ride on the beach. Have just bought my daughter a pony for Xmas (!) and am confident she will find it a real whizz.....but...........where can you go?

I am based in Winchester so south coast is easy to reach.

Can you recommend anywhere? And also being a novice on this - is there anything I should look out for or be mindfull of? Plan for I guess?

Thanks.

I went to East Wittering beach in West sussex was absolutly amazing!!! Once the tide is out theres miles to go. Got some pics here.:D

It was absolutly brill, i would take my little girl more but it was a 2 hour drive for us, but definatly worth it so much fun and the horses loved it!!!! The only thing there is theres no car park, we managed to find a quiet road and as we only had quiet ponies it was fine. But im sure somebody else that went there contacted the local stables and parked there and hacked the 2 minutes down the road.:)

Wittering is a gorgeous beach....although never managed to ride along it.

Hayling is a good beach too...have ridden that one a few times and swum with my old boy...such an amazing feeling...loved it :)

Where ever you go i'm sure you will have such a fantastic time

Did wonder bout that actually - where to unload? I have a rather spooky mare so ideally would need somewhere to park off the road. Maybe I could just take the pony but think it would be nicer for me to ride with her aswell. I might call the local stables - thats a good idea.

She got the pony for Xmas - we have known him for a little while and he has been perfect BUT the little bugger bolted in the indoor with her the other day so I am keeping her on the lead rein at the moment! Think the cold got to him and a little too much Xmas spirit!

So I dont fancy letting her off the lead rein on the beach in Wittering - might be picking her up in Brighton otherwise!

Sorry Nigsha - please dont be off or funny.

I am a little slow tonight, I am full of flu, keep having sneezing fits and feel dreadful, was planning on saying thank you but just got sidelined with the pictures. Am gunna look up Hayling Island beaches now. So thank you.

And thanks everyone else for your responses......

Yer if shes funny would defo look into the yard, we unloaded on a side road and was lucky we had quiet ones!!!

Would defo keep her on the lead rein, my daughters pony was quite full of it and hes usually very quiet. Definatly worth it i enjoyed it and only went on foot with the dogs, im defo planning doing it again!!!:)

Seem to be a few local stables so will give one of them a call tomorrow. I would love to take my mare coz she would enjoy it. Need to exercise her before I go though - she is a little fresh having not been worked much recently. It would be great to take my gelding but as he doesnt like water I dont think I would get very far!

Will plan for the end of the month I think....
