A horse fur jacket is up for sale on ebay and it must be stopped. If anyone can stop this then the horse and hound readers can.Its page is http:/cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAROL-CHRISTIAN-POELL-PATENT-HORSE-FUR-JACKET-/320580402386/?pt=Mens_s_Clothes and the user is on there too.Its discraceful and horrid!!!!!!!!

WTF are you for real?

There are 151 items matching "pony skin" on eBay. I don't see the problem? Why is pony wrong and cow/sheep ok?

Report all leather and skin items otherwise you are a total hypocrite !

Am I missing something? :o

*whispers* Why does it need to be stopped? Although I would never dream of wearing anything made from horse fur (or any fur for that matter!) I can't see what the problem is :o :o Genuine question!

Really? You want it banned?!?!? When the slaughter of horses for meat is fine and legal? Why is it so different because it is the fur? It is a by product surely?!?! Sure, it may not be to my fashion taste, but you can't ban something just because you dont like the idea of it. Are you so passionate about rabit / mink / other furs being sold on ebay?

PMSL! Having looked at the item on ebay, I can honestly say I would report it too - but only for it being a total rip off because it is a hideous old skanky looking jacket that they want £2900 for it!!! Nothing to do with the ethics of the material!

Do you use leather tack?

Although i dont like fur clothing i dont see why this is so disgraceful. As others have said this is a by product.

Cows etc... are no different

Ditto this.

My first answer to the title was 'Why?!'

Ponykins is dead....not like it's being bred for the sole purpose of clothes....

Even if so, not nice no, but if you want that banned....then everything else should be banned too and vegan-ism made compulosry world wide ;)

Oh no! What a very sad, bland (and hungry!!!) world that would be.... Although I think we discovered that I would pretty much eat anything on the wonderful ''horse for meat'' thread. As I said then, I care about the living animal - once dead, it is meat and weather you want to eat it or wear it, I'm fine with it.

Maybe the HHOers aren't as fluffy and tree hugging as OP would have liked... sorry to disapoint!!!

have to say i dont like it, but i do accept that this does happen. Through my own choice i am a veggie, with synthetic tack & dont wear leather. (I more against the whole mass production to meet consumer demands at stupidly low prices, which is generally detrimental to the animals, as opposed to the actual eating of animals)
However, i understand that it is someones choice to eat meat & wear skin/fur, but i would much rather the whole animal was used & no wastage occurred. Its much better to use the whole carcus & optimise it than just kill it for the bit of flesh that tastes nicest. So if a horse HAS to be killed for its flesh then why not use the skin to make a coat?
In my ideal world all animasl would live in the wild & be killed as & when they were needed & the wasteful/disrespectful nation we have developed would no longer exist.
Sorry for the slight rant :D
xXx

Ditto. I hope it looked better on the horse 'cos I don't like the look of it now.

Ditto this again.

Along the same train of thought!

Apparently it was originally bought for £8000. Yikes, what a waste of money!

How strange. Once its dead, its dead, provided its been killed humanely - I don't see what the difference is with leather and/or any other fur. You have to hate it all universally if you are going to hate it at all...

I haven't bothered to look at the item in question, but cannot for the life of me understand what the problem is with a pony skin coat. Hands up any one who has ever had a sheepskin coat, or is old enough to have had an afghan coat (goat and they smelled like it too!) What is the difference?
