horse will be going in for lameness x-rays. i have to stay all day to ride him as he is worse ridden. after much researching and reading (on here as well) i have a real feeling its navicular. i've had 2x vet visits so far but no x rays done yet as first nerve block was inconclusive. do you think i should say to the vets when i get there that i have a strong feeling it is ...... can you please just x ray the foot. will they just tell me to butt out and continue nerve blocking his whole leg or do you think they will take my gut instinct into consideration. to be honest for the last 2x visits thats all i've wanted them to do really is x-ray his foot but is it my place to tel them what to do. obviously if they did it and nothing showed then we'd have to continue on but i just think if i have such strong feeling cannot i not just request his foot is x-rayed?

If you have a feeling it is in the foot then yes id say something if it was me, as its a starting point. Do they not have any ideas of what it is them selves? When mine had a lameness work up at home there was some swelling around the back of the pastern which gave the vet an indication it was something to do with his navicular bone. But they still done 5 xrays from knee down to make sure that was the problem, and was a chipped nav bone.

thank you for your replies. i think i will speak up. on the second visit they watched him ridden as it is then very obvious which leg he is lame on. they then nerve blocked from the fetlock down and he was still lame tho i have heard that just one nerve block may not work due to related pain higher up. they then said they wouldnt x ray as no reaction to nerve block hence him going in for further ones as they didnt have time to do anymore nerve blocking that day. they wouldnt give me any indication of what it was,i said i thought it could be navicular, he's the right age, right breed and has all the symptoms, and they simply said 'it could be'

also- i think there is some minor swelling around the pastern but they didnt look at this on the second visit as they'd already looked at the first visit, but that was 2 weeks earlier
