My 4 year old is in light work atm due to increase over the next few weeks before qualifiers.

He has always been a bit of a pig and gets through alot of haylage (he always has a net in his stable). The past three days he has only been picking at his nets, which is odd! I thought maybe he was just being picky the first day so gave his untouched net to my other horse and she ate it no problem. I made him a new net up and he didnt touch it. I have nice quality haylage and im halfway through the bale so he was eating this before fine.

He eats his hard feed which is 1/4 pasture mix, 1/2 speedibeet and a cup of blue chip, morning and night with no problems!

Im going to try him on hay today but any suggestions in the meantime?

Are you absolutely sure the bale is ok? Ours stop eating when there is something wrong with it. A bale can change halfway through (we've got one that started out great but is not as good on the inside on the go now). Try offering it to another horse and see if they eat it.

Oh sorry, you'd already said that!:o Is he still getting enough from good grass perhaps? Ours only go out a couple of days a week on the fields, and on those days aren't interested in the haylage when they come in.. Yes, I'd try him on hay and see what happens.

He only gets a couple of days out a week as he will only tollerate two hours out a day before he jumps in. Hes munching on hay atm so ill see if he finishes a haynet today :) other horses still eating haylage. Maybe hes being fussy :) out of character though
