My mares usually quite forward and spooky, but has went very quiet the past few days!! I rode her on Fri and she was as normal - forward bound, Sat she had off, Sun we done a wee comp at the yard were she was very lazy and dull in the busy warm up (shes usually more forward with horses) Took her to the other empty warm up and after some transitions she felt more forward but still not as she usually is. She was very lazy in the tests aswell. Turned her out then when she came in she just stood at the back of her stable when she is usually winnieing for food and is alert. She also box walks/prances a bit around feed times but she didnt. Went to feed this morning and again she wasnt vocal and just stood quietly waiting on her food - not normal!! She got shod this morning and was very quite with the farrier this morning, stood like a gem when she is usually spooky and snatches her feet off the farrier, but she didnt either. She was almost sleeping  She also took a while to eat her haylage, wereas she usually scoffs it as fast as possible!! Her weight hasnt changed, still shiney and doesnt seem in any discomfort at all. I dont no wheather to get bloods done as i dont want to waste the vets time if its fixed with vit/min supplement. Any suggestions of what it may be??

Thanks

I always think that if your horse has a radical change of behavior then something's up. She may have some pain somewhere , take her temp to see if it is raised , what she like turned out ? if she's out there just hanging around and not eating , I would get the vet out to take some blood to see if he can pin-point anything , or she may be mildly colicky.

I don't think her personality would change just through a lack of vits/mins.

Yes, I would get the vet out. I delayed with my mare a few years ago and really regret it. Her symptoms were the same. Eventually got the vet and bloods were normal so pushed her to work, but then she started with a cough and ended up with a serious lung infection, poor girl.

She seems fine turned out, standing eating and spooking at haylage bales!! But not as energetic as usual. Ive checked legs and back, and shes sound. I dont think she looks colicky but you never know. Im away to check on her now :)
