Put Bog in stable whilst I went to get TB in to ride and lead. He immediately went down to roll and then got cast. I felt dreadful because there was nothing I could do until he managed to get back up again. He must have only been down for about 2 minutes but it was terrifying. He managed to get back up again by doing the most ridiculous wiggle. I was going to have the back lady out just before my wedding in June but she is now coming next week just to be sure.

He seems ok today and went out for a ride quite happily but am going to have him checked out anyway.

We are supposed to be changing from shavings to straw in the winter. I'm just wondering whether I'm going to be able to make massive, heavy banks with straw like I do with the shavings. Any ideas?

I changed my pony to straw last year, and he now has the hugest, squishiest comfiest bed on the yard (all the others are on a thin sprinkling of shavings), and yes, he has huge banks. I found my straw is also easier to make neat: I have neatly square banks and a deep comfy bed :)

I used oat straw in the winter as opposed to wheat straw, and that was easier to shape into banks. :)
