Horse Hair dryer

Ive been pondering...

I was wondering if anyone uses a dryer on their horse?

I saw a video of Friesian grooming techniques and they used a large grooming dryer to dry off the feathers, mane and tail.

I guess it could be beneficial to dry off wet feathers, or to get dry fast after a bath.

Apart from the noise, are there any reasons that I've totally missed why this would be a bad idea?

I just use a normal hair dryer as do a few people I know who show, a lot of the Clydesdale people I know use the cattle blow driers esp at shows, I suspect safety is an issue especially in some yards where electric and water are in close proximity, and I suspect some people would think its overkill for the majority of pleasure horses Lol!!!

I just use a normal human hair dryer on my old boy. He needs bathing regularly, even through winter so it just gets him dryer quicker in the cold. He actually loves it but other horses may need to be gradually introduced to it, I know my mare would freak out if I pointed it anywhere near her!

Lol yes they may think I am a bit crazy! I guess a normal hair dryer does the same job effectively? but then they will think im really mad! I may as get the curling wand out while im there!

I am just thinking that there will be times id like to at least partially bathe him during the winter, clean up his mane/tail/feathers and would hate for him to be standing around wet waiting to dry. I just wonder though if a normal hair dryer will have a long enough cord? Ofc an extension lead would work but even with that attached the hair might not have a long enough cord without tugging on the extension... hmmm I maybe need to test this!

You could try a cordless hair dryer if you're worried it might not reach. I've no idea what the battery life is like on them but I'm sure you could google some reviews and find a decent one.

Hmm now there is an idea! removed the water/electricity problem, and not using the YO's leccy!

I have one like that one on eBay, great for drying thick shetland coats after a bath in winter for shows.

All are ok with it, introduced slowly of course, and one loves it and quite often stands in the way when I'm drying one of the others.
