So had a naughty horse today and because of this he now has a loose shoe. some people are telling me to leave it and keep him in the stable others are telling me to take it off if its loose enough and turnout. ive never had a horse throw a shoe or anything before luckily so i dont know who to listen too. anybody help please?

Wasn't there a thread a while ago were someone posted a photo of a horse who had got a "lost" shoe stuck on his/hers hoof? So in your situation, I wouldn't want him to lose the loose shoe out in the field.

Take it off and call the farrier. Horses can puncture their soles on half-off shoes and cause serious injury to themselves in other ways.

If it's loose enough for you to get it off, I would do so - it wouldn't last on in the field anyway and it'll do more damage ripping off.

If it's just a little loose, (missing one nail, making an odd noise but but not hanging off) I'd call the farrier and get him to come first thing tomorrow am and leave in stable over night.

Thank you. well at the moment it isnt that loose; i dont think its pulling off loose but i think its got a couple of screws out. Ive left him in tonight and trying to find a farrier as mine isnt down to the weekend and i dont get along with the other. So got a few to ring up tonight
