Hi,
Wondering if anyone has experienced this before. My cob has developed little bite like lumps on either side of his wither and spine. They are nowhere else on his body and he doesn’t seam bothered by me grooming or touching them. He’s clipped but was clipped over a week ago with same clippers and clipper oil I’ve always used on him. Grooming brushes are all brand new and rugs all clean. His diet hasn’t had any changes in months. Could it be some kind of bite? I’m in Scotland so pretty cold for flys? Just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this before and if so what you did to clear it up. Thanks

sometimes in winter when the days are mild we can midges hatching here, although theyre not as ferocious as summer, the odd one still bites.
but i guess if your boy is rugged that prevents anything biting him.
Maybe its just a skin reaction to being clipped, combined with his rug rubbing slightly the stubble of hair.
Especially as he doesnt seem bothered about you grooming the little bumps, i’d say its like a’shaving rash’ - mainly due to rug rubbing moreso on his topline.

You didnt say that the bumps were hairless, oozing, flakey skin looking, as if that were the case id be thinking skin mites/fungus/rain rot type conditions.

I use aloe vera for its excellent healing of skin issues and see how things go. Maybe try that..its waterbased, soaks in fast, and wont make your rugs all oily like other creams.

Our first pony had it when daughter and I were beginners at horse keeping. It was due to not washing her numnah often enough, I think we only had 2 and one was much more favoured.
