Hi Folks, just wondering has anyone had much experience with Belgian warmblood foals and their growth rate?
I imported a foal from Belgium last December and it hasn’t grown much in the mean time, it’s a June born foal and currently stands around the 13:2hh mark.
The dam is 16:2hh and the sire is 17hh.
The foal is in very good health and is on a good feed plan but yet hasn’t really reached a growth spurt..has anyone experience in something along the same lines and if so what was the outcome in terms of final height and length of time it took to fully mature ?
Do Belgian warm blood usually take longer to catch up (she’s in with a Irish sports horse filly and she’s a monster so makes the Belgian warm blood look a bit smaller than she is)
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

My one experience was Dutch mare at 16.2 with a Belgian warmblood sire who stood 16.3. Foal was huge at birth (we called him the mutant foal) and he matured at 17.3. Not much help though for you, sorry.

I had another foal at the same time, mare was 16.0 Dutch and father was 16.1 Dutch. He was a month younger and significantly smaller and it was quite funny watching them playing together. He matured at 16.2.
