Hello, I recently bought my first horse last year in July. Wasn't too bothered on her history as she was sound and well suited and just wanted a basic horse to enjoy, nothing fancy. But recently I've been curious and would LOVE to know her history!

Her previous owner didn't know all that much about her unfortunately so I'm not sure how to go about finding out?

She has a weatherbys passport but no one knows whether she actually raced or not. Her name is on a promise (stable name: Elsie) was born on 20th April 2003.

Sire: dancing spree (USA)
Dam: diamond promise (IRE)
Damsire: fayruz
Bred by: mrs s castell

But on her passport I am the only owner on the passport (?!?!) yet she's been passed around all over the place according to her vaccination records - although none have been done properly!!!!!! A LOT of restarts!!

Just doesn't seem right to me and she has a big scar on her which has been vet checked and by our physio - doesn't affect her in any way whatsoever but I'd love to know the story behind it and behind her.

How do I find this all out? Or anything about her bloodlines?

Just curious really, thank you for taking the time to read all this!

If you contact Wetherbys you can ask them to run a racing search for you (from memory it costs about £12.

Is it a racing passport or an ID passport? Both my horses have Weatherbys passports but neither have been anywhere near a racing track or trainers yard, they have the ID passports that are required by law.

She was bred to race but obviously never made it to the track. She has 1 known half sister called Star Promise. No progeny from the mare went to the sales so you can't flick through their sales returns. No others raced. From the one that did race the breeder then owned it as a racehorse, maybe the same could be said of your if she went into training. Your best off contacting the breeder. Weatherby's will have their contact details if you ask really nicely lol!

Give them a ring first but ask them if they would forward a letter from you to the breeder, they've done it for me in the past. Be sure to write your letter, stick it in a stamped envelope then send it with a covering letter to Weatherbys, (include in that the full passport details of your mare, name, dob and passport number so there's no mistaking it); if you have any sense then you'll put a sae into the breeder's envelope too so they have no excuse that they can't reply. BTW, W's won't be able to give you their address direct due to data protection but they're usually happy to forward letters to their last known address.

if you go onto this website http://www.racingpost.com/ and in the search box on the right type in your mare's dam's name then it will tell you all about her racing carrer. unfortuantly there is no photos of her. you can also search her Sire aswell and see what he done in his racing carrer and also other horses he has sired. couldnt find any mention of your mare im afraid so she hasnt raced in the UK.
