... and for once it wasn't the big bad drivers fault...

Our yard are coming to terms with what could have been a horrific accident yesterday morning... horse (17.2hh big warmblood) was being led to the field across the road when he spooked (the other side of the road) and shot back across the road to the yard, into the path of an oncoming car... a small audience watched in horror as we saw the incident unfold before our eyes with no time to do anything about it. Horse was hit side on and flipped like a ragdoll into the winscreen of the car. car stopped and horse rolled off into the road, got up and trotted back into the yard as if nothing had happened. Vet was called immediately fearing the worst...Poor driver and little girl in the front of the car were badly shaken and horse miraculously got off with just bruises.

Thank got the car was only doing about 30 and not the usual 60 we have to negotiate down this particular country lane or it would have been a very different story.

The driver/passenger were also very lucky to walk away from that! Must have been a good car. How awful

Everyone involved was pretty shaken yes and thanking themselves very lucky... the horse was completely oblivious to the drama and was banging on his stable door 10 minutes later wanting out!!

The car was a big Audi estate and other than a smallish dent in the drivers wing and obviously a shattered windscreen, there was little sign of damage...

wow! Thats a good safety advert for the car- hitting a 17.2 warmblood at 30 mph and just a dent. Im amazed!

Would have hated to have seen that though, scary.

Oh my goodness how scary!

So relieved to hear the horse was ok, as were the driver and passenger. Must have been quite a shock for all involved.

Sounds similar to an accident to someone I knew (who was driving the car). Horse came to rest on the bonnet, all was fine, no one was hurt. Horse then lashed out trying to get itself back onto the road, leg went through the windscreen and hit the driver with such a force that he broke his neck. Still alive but paralized from the neck down (not nice, let alone when you are the bread winner with two tiny children!).

These things can happen so tragically quickly.

That is so tragic. Makes you realise how precious life is!

Gosh, tickety-boo what a terrible story. Just hope all the horses involved were insured because that will be the next thing ....................
