Oooh this thread is so fun! I agree with quite a few of these. My main peeves are:

People who buy horses after only riding for a few weeks, have no knowledge of how to look after them, keep them on DIY livery, don't listen to anyone's advice (because they think they know it all) and the poor horse ends up in a right state
frown.gif

Fat horses that get 2-3 meals a day and virtually no exercise.

People who have their horses fully clipped in winter even though the barely ride them, just to make the horse look smart.

People who barely ever ride/exercise their horse and then take it hunting or to a show and are surprised when it becomes tired easily/ is a nutter/ does a tendon.

People who think that if they can yank their horse's head into an outline that makes them an amazing rider and have no idea (or prehaps don't care) of the discomfort and damage it can do to their horse. Also these people when they don't understand working horses from behind.

People who ride in spurs because they can't be bothered to use their legs/seat.

People with more money than sense who buy flashy horses that they can't cope with.

I could go on...

People who canter, in the same spot out hacking every single time, regardless of ground conditions, and then wonder why their horse bombs off with them when they hit that spot
smirk.gif

Inconsiderate people who bomb round and jump, day in, day out, on rock hard ground. We have one at my yard who can't understand why her poor horse (only a 5yo) is intermittently lame all summer.

Misuse of rollkur. Making your horses' nose touch its knees, using nothing but a snaffle, is disgusting to watch. Sadly we've a few of these at my yard too

Thats how I got my pony, from people who thought it was cheaper than having lessons

love this post! i have a few!
* untidy muck heaps- people not putting the muck up and just dumping all there muck where someone else will have to move it, also seeing clean bedding in the muck heap drives me bonkers!
* people trying to make their horses look like they are nuts when they are clearly lovely quiet little lambs when everyone else handles them.
* people at events parking right next to you before you even have the side ramp down- how thick, where am i gonna unload? ontop of your range rover?
* kids ponies at pony club events that have clearly been sat in a field for months not ridden and then dragged to said event scruffy, unfit, and unfit for purpose.
* people in collecting rings jumping in draw reins ( don't like draw reins anyway in general )
* people that follow all the latest fashions fads and trends of the horse world, have every piece of kit and gadgetry going, every new type of feed on the market, every supplement under the sun, 100 rugs in every style and colour, 5 saddles and 20 bridles and all for their one little native type that doesnt need any of it at all.
* horses that are in a false outline and being ridden with strong hands and lazy legs.
oh and sooooooo many more, but i feel i should stop now!

Great post! Mine are :
-Flash nosebands being fitted too low.
-Using brushing boots for no apparent reason.
-Spoilt bratty kids with pot hunting parents.
-Riders on the road with no high vis on.
-Ridiculous fences / distances that appear in unaffiliated jumping and XC.
-People whacking Horses for refusing when it was clearly the riders fault.
-Full size saddlecloths that clearly aren't full size (ie won't fit anything bigger than 17").

Oooh this is a good post! I agree with all of the above apart from those that I do (have spoken once or twice or my mobile whilst riding and a couple of other minor things). One of my many pet hates is seeing people returning from a xc round, tying their horse up to the box and then walking off for half an hour. Horse all sweated up, not washed down, offered no water and not ruggged up even (if it's a chilly day) aaaargh!
Hate seeing people wearing spurs with the spur continuosly dug into the horses side. No wonder your horses sides are dead to your leg!
Annoys me too to see a horse being beaten up when it was entirely the riders fault.
Oh and why must people jump their horse a hundred times in the warm up arena. Or even worse whack the jump up (far bigger than the class height), horse refuses and then spend the next half hour winding horse and themselves up trying to get over the fence. Surprise, surprise when they get eliminated at the first fence.
.... and breathe!

- People who cannot handle/ride sane mature horses but go and buy an youngsters/projects.
- People who cannot be arsed to get up in a morning so leave their/other peoples horses unfed till mid morning.
- People who do not do their assigned yard job.
- YOs who doesn't give too hoots about livery horses.
- People who have the nerve to call a horse 'unsightly' because it has cut its face.
- The girl who had the nerve to say that my horse was the 'dog' of the group because he prefers to walk around his field eating instead of trying to beat the cr@p out of all the other horses like hers as he is the 'best' and is pround that he kicks every horse as he is showing he he 'top dog'
- People who don't wear hi viz.
- People who don't poo pick the schools after they use it or leave jumps up.
- People pushing horses after injury, a holiday or youngsters.
- People not thanking other drivers.
- People/staff that have one rule for them and another for everyone else.
- Instructors that bum certain clients and their horses but won't say a thing to others in the same lesson.

Hmmm I think I better stop.

I have a really low tolerance level but strangely enough am struggling to come up with top hates. I suppose the thing that makes me crossest is the not wearing hiz vis as you are on the public highway and have a responsbility to your horse and other road users. Perhaps I am getting strangely mellow or it could just be that it is saturday morning and I should be doing house work and I am not!

Another one I have just been reminded of....

Not only people parking too close to your front-unloading ramp at shows....but also people who park THEIR front unloading ramp too close to you. Case in point - a sponsored ride a few weeks ago. Mum started a new line as the first car park was full....several sensible people came and parked to our left - but then one eejit decided to park right next to us on the hedge side. I am not joking - their ramp when they took it down only missed Mum's Shogun by six inches - AND they had unloaded the horses by the time we realised
shocked.gif

Oh, and another - people zooming their lorries right up your horse's backside at a show
mad.gif

And another - people who dont ride left-to-left in practice rings, and those who insist on jumping practice fences a) in the wrong direction and b) three feet higher than the class they have entered

I agree - I think it's tongue in cheek humour - It made me laugh -

I bet that poor daddy knows he's got children and ponies! LOL!

Sometimes I think people are more green-eyed when it comes to children having money spent on them - which I think is rather sad

- pushy parents.
- people who are scared of their perfectly well behaved horses and get them into bad habits.
- Devoucoux saddles
- people who canter ridiculously slowly with the horse barely going forwards because they think they are doing dressage
- people who back two years olds and claim they are nearly three.
- most of the farriers in Aberdeen
