Does anyone have a recommendation for dealers in Staffordshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire? I'm looking for a quality riding horse? Someone who understands what I mean by a sensible ride with basic schooling that hacks out across country and won't scare the life out of me if I take it to somewhere like Somerford for a whizz round ! I'm an experienced rider but no longer up to riding youngsters after a couple of operations and feeling old and creaky these days ! Lots of lovely hunters and jumpers out there but struggling to find what I call a riding horse.

I got my lovely boy from Patsy Day at Stubbly Hollow Farm in Dronfield just between Sheffield and Chesterfield. I'm not sure what her situation is just now re selling as her website (which is excellent, btw) hasn't been updated for a while (I think her yard FB is still active though) I came quite a long way to look here as everything I read led me to believe she's honest and knowledgable and her horses are as described. I was not disappointed and have got a great match from her. Definitely recommend a look. x

The word quality worries me as you clearly want a smart looking equine.
If you want something that is sensible and is well schooled, established and can be hacked out by itself or in company (first or last) and is 100% bombproof/spook proof then I would put temperament before the appearance of the horse. Unless you are very lucky you will find it very difficult to find a safe/sensible horse as there are very few of them about these days.
The issue with buying from a dealer is that they don't keep them long enough to establish their true temperament so my advice is buy from an honest private owner who has owned the horse for several years.
