Horse I tried today

if he's as safe as you say, and with the Clover Hill bloodline i'd be looking at around £3000 ish, more if you want tack/rugs etc.

sounds just like my cup of tea though. IDx are pretty trainable and will "generally" come on with some patience and work!

i say go for it if he continues to be fun to ride! please get him vetted first though to avoid disappointment later on - eeven if you know the people well. if they've any sense they'll see it as good sense and not as a personal affront.

Looks like a nice chap. I have an IDx (1/2 ID) that I bought as a rising 4 yo (to be a companion to my other). I backed her myself & she's fab! I'd buy another IDx anytime. She's so willing & loving. He looks like he's got a similar attitude to life. I would expect to pay 4-5k. Safe horses can be a lot more fun than flashy

I think he looks lovely. Quite like my orange beast. If he's a safe proven hunter that will go out and jump in our hunt country you'd be looking to pay between £5000 and £6000 for him. Hunters hold their value. We know plenty of people who are looking for the above and are prepared to spend that sort of money but are struggling to find the horses.

You sound just like me when I tried my horse 2 years ago. He wasn't what I was looking for but I felt 100% safe on him. He's turned out to be brilliant. He does everything I ask of him and more. I wouldn't now swap him for anything flash and whizzy. I know each time I get on it'll be my choice when to get off - unlike the horse before! I think they are what you make them. And your gut instinct is the one to listen to.

awww he looks lovely, but that could just be becuase he looks very similar to my George! Sounds very similar too, he is 16.3, was 8 when I bought him last year, general allrounder.

I like him. I think smartened up a bit and with a bit more muscle he would be lovely.

I go tK for £4.5K and I think he is well worth it. You can't pay enough for a good temperament and nice manner IMO. He too was not what I was looking for, but I felt 'right' when I sat on him and I haven't looked back since!

Feeling safe & comfortable on a horse the first time you try them (especially going XC) is worth quite a bit I'd say. Temperament is so important too. OH was looking for a new horse for quite a while and saw several nutters. Thank goodness he seems to have found one with a good temperament that he is really clicking with.
Good luck tomorrow, let us know how it goes.
