Horse in Tescos - Police and RSPCA

I disagree the horse slipped a couple of times, not all over the place, was it a stupid stunt, yes but as for the "what ifs", aaaargh what if a car flies around the corner, what if he spooks on the road, what if he refuses, what if i fall off, what if, what if !!!! if we went on the what ifs of life we'd never get on a horse and as we all seen on the video, nothing bad happened to anybody and the what ifs were shelved for another day !!

I'm sorry I completely disagree. There's a major difference in carrying out everyday tasks e.g. riding/hacking and performing a deliberately reckless, stupid, dangerous stunt that puts the horse/rider/public at risk for a petty laugh. People need to think of the potential consequences of their actions before doing anything like this. What if the horse slipped? What if it kicked out at a customer? What if it bolted? I don't see refusing a jump or spooking on the road as an accurate comparison. Has it been blown out of proportion in regards to RSPCA? Yes, it is not a welfare case but police action I thoroughly agree with.

Youre entitled to your view, yes it was stupid on that i agree, but the facts remain the same, the horse didnt fall, nobody was run over, nobody was trampled to death
But still the what ifs remain :-)

Haven't read some of the other replies, but personally (probably being totally banal here), I thought it was hilarious!!!

And what a LOVELY polite horse........ didn't spook, wasn't stoopid, just clopped around completely unfazed. What a darling. I want him/her!! Wasn't even fazed by the thought of a Tesco's beefburger or Lasagne:):):)

I know very well where my guzzle-guts would have headed if he'd been allowed inside a supermarket....... the veggie aisle & straight for the apples and carrots:)

Sorry, wasn't demeaning the very valid arguments about the "rightness" of the act, or welfare/H&S implications. Appreciate that it wasn't probably the wisest thing to do!

But by god, it made ME laugh on a filthy mucky evening when the wind's blowing up a hooley outside.........:)

If it was in the Heavyweight Cob class at Olympia then it is in a league of its own seeing as the only showing at Olympia is the M&M's and the Veterans!

The woman was an idiot for taking her horse in the shop but it was her choice. No need for all the kerfuffle!

Sorry, my bad, was the Horse of the Year Show, which for some reason I thought was in London!!

I'm not condoning it by the way, just saying that the horse is not a welfare case.

Well the Police are generally pretty hopeless with horse or any large animal incidents, so maybe they just phoned the RSPCA for some advice to make sure they weren't missing something. And I can't help thinking that the report by the Police Inspector stating that the girls threatened the Tesco staff and are well known to the staff and the Police makes these girls angels of their community.

What a fuss about nothing. Yes it may have been silly but no harm done. I hope no legal proceedings arise as there are far more pressing issues the Police need to be dealing with.

It is funny how something relatively innocuous gets people's knickers in a twist.

I wonder if she's paid for the Pepsi yet? That's the only thing I think legally is wrong about what she did.

Where does it say in the report that people were threatened ? It states the girl is well known in tescos and by the police, it doesnt say anywhere on that report or show in the video anyone being threatened that i can see .

I thought it was a brilliant stunt. That girl knew her horse, rode well and qualified for HOYS. Horse knew how to behave in a situation as it was used to being shown. I am sure most of you could not say the same about the horses you own. I want to shake her hand! I would love to have the guts to do the same.

I agree with this, i'm not saying it was not dangerous but he was only in there for a few minutes :) And im sure Tesco is no more scary than clapping crowds of HOYS.. I wonder if the Security Guard has done his nomination? :D

Bit of an overreaction, I think they'll be struggling to pin an offence on her, perhaps an ancient, little used common law offence of riding recklessly or something (I'm guessing here).

Stunning cob in stunning condition, rider was a bit annoying to listen to but perhaps not shown at her best in that particular situation - trying to film something quickly.

Read the earlier post by HBB - she has quoted the report from the Police Inspector - there is also another report here

And there are plenty of other reports too!

I don't think so but may be wrong. They'll be able to pin something on her for being a danger to others in that situation and for what she supposedly said afterwards I would have thought. Though a fine at the most. I actually thought the horse was rather obese :o

I think it was very careless to go into Tesco, generally because of the slippy floors and the spooky environment of a supermarket.
I really think Tesco could have turned the whole thing around and made a laugh of it more than making sounding like a bunch of scrounges who contact the police and RSPCA. But I can sort of see why they need to act professionally and be seen to be enquiring to police ect.
Someone mentioned waitrose, I genuinely think that waitrose would have handled it differently they would use this drama strategically for positive press.
I would hate to be in the position of that girl right now because if Tesco want to take action against her they will 99.9% win as they will be able to afford the best lawyers money can buy.
As for stealing the Pepsi.. That is just plain stupid.

Best lawyers or not, the girl should at very least have a slap on the wrist/warning.

I just can't think why anyone would put other people at risk. All very well saying it's hazardous on the roads etc - but people sort of expect to see horses on roads. They don't expect to walk around the corner of an aisle to be confronted by a gigantic horse which is slipping and sliding everywhere.

I also can't imagine what sort of person would put their 'beloved' horse in such danger either. :-(

I'm a terrible 'what if?' thinker and although I think the cob is lovely and the boots are lush I just can't stop thinking that it was a stupid stunt for no good reason. My 'what if?' radar brings up so many bad scenarios :( It is interesting to see the other way of thinking though.

Probably it's just that Tesco are a little sensitive about finding a little unexplained horseflesh in their food aisles.
