My mare needs and inhaler, the vet said he can get me one for £40 and the drugs to go in it for just under £70 (which he said will last ages) This is for a human inhaler, not one of the fancy horse ones. So my questions are, where can I get one cheaper? What are the drugs that go in it? And if I can get the perscription from my vet, where can I buy the drugs from? I really begruge paying the prices that my vets charge when I know I can get them cheap else where, thing is, I dont know where!

I recently had the same for my horse but paid more than that - a lot more in fact! If I were to do the same thing again, I wouldn't even bother with an inhaler - I'd use a plastic bag, like a sandwich bag! I think you can also use a childs inhaler, which you can buy from the chemist. Also, look at on-line prices for drugs; they can sometimes be cheaper.

Your vet's price for an inhaler isn't bad. Human ones can be dearer than that. I nebulise my horse with sodium chromoglycate. This is a human hayfever eyedrops medication (opticrom, or you can buy the generic drug cheaper)

If you are using a human nebuliser, you can adapt a bucket muzzle (put it on back to front with the nostril holes at the back) with half an inch of hosepipe through the central hole at the bottom, taping over the other two holes. I use an omron microair nebuliser that works at any angle, in a little bag tied to the straps of the muzzle so that I don't have to hold it or him. I groom him while nebulising, which makes it less of a chore. It's a bit heavy on batteries, tho' - def worth getting rechargeable ones.
