ok, i have had my horses insured with E&L for over a year now and i keep getting told horror stories about them!! so yesterday i finally cancelled both insurances for my 2 boys, i rang NFU? they seem really good but very pricey compared to what ive been paying. i had Buddie insured as £1000 3rd party and bear £1800, pretty much the same all covering vets fee's etc.... and it was about £20 a month for both, and the NFU quoted £56 a month for both and it was pretty much covering the same as E&L, i cant really afford that (our car insurance is less than that!!!) so if anybody knows of good insurance companies at reasonable money!!???? thanks xxx

Both of mine are insured with E&L.

Now i know there is alot of scare mongering going around about them but in their defence i have had over £7000 worth of vetinary treatment for Indiana alone as in the last 3 years he has had Bastard Strangles, Fractured Skull, Abcesses, Treatment and Diagnosis of Bone Spavin etc etc and E&L have paid out (*Touch Wood)

I think at the end of the day no matter who you go with you always run the risk of them not paying out.

My mom was with NFU and she was involed in a Car Accident while she was out riding (a car went in to the back of her horse) The NFU was recommended to my mom as being really good, 3 years down the line and they still have not sorted anything out for her and she has had to foot all the bills etc out herself.

Just got insurance with Petplan. £9.16 per month. vets fees £3500 excess of £500. Public liability £25 with Britih Driving Society. had problems with others.

I think you will find everyone has good and bad stories about most companies. I can only speak from experience and NFU have paid up on 3 recent claims I had, though they did try and wriggle out of the Cushings one. Tried to say that a case of laminitis about 4 years ago was a sign . Luckily my vet argued the case for me. Have to say my vets say that NFU are one of the better ones they deal with.

i use scottish equestrian, havent had any trouble with them, cheaper than pet plan but slightly more than e and l, have to say i didnt find e and l very efficient x
