Has anyone used them? Have got a very competitive quote but want to be sure on how good they are at paying out etc... THanks!

Apparently they are getting better at paying out, ive heard of a few people who are insured with them & havnt had any problems at all....so ive given them a go & have to admit the prices were what swayed me towards using them.

Actually, I work for a very well known agricultural insurance company...however I insured my horse with horse-insurance.co.uk as he was only supposed to be with me for a short term (project horse - FAIL!).

I have not had a problem with them and I have had £2500 worth of claims for sarcoids.

The only thing I would say is that you need to read your policy very carefully if you want to make a claim....they have lots of timelines that you need to do things by, but as long as you adhere to these, I can't see that there would be a problem....

:eek::eek::eek::eek:E&L never steer clear hard to get money from and phone help is crap.

here read some of the revues
http://www.equinecompare.co.uk/veteranHorseInsurance.php
I have been with SEIB for at least 10 years , have 5 policies.
Always paid out .
Now my mare is a veteran they are not interested in illness and sickness. So if something comes in with strangles she is not covered. Now she has lami they are not interested.

I shopped around Pet plan were not interested either as she is a veteran ( and not an existing policy and lami not covered).

We worked out with gelding insurance @ £ 460 a year i have not made a claim since 2003.

so we have paid £ 5980

the pony 3 years at £ 460 never claimed = £ 1380

my other mare we pay £150 per year ,claimed last year they would pay £ 750 of tendon vet bill before that not made a claim in at least 8 years ( owned her 21 years )

So we have paid them over £ 9000 recently.

yearly we give them £ 1000 of which they pay max 700 on a accident injury only. And excess is £ 250

So now we have opened a bank account paying that money for all 3 of them into bank account which is
£ 200 + hubby matching that @ £ 400 . So I have money if an incident with any of the animals cats - dog horses- donkey.

Told my vet and he said " I do that too - I have 8 horses "

And mum doing that with her dog.

When we went through Kbis insurance to compare with SEIB there are soooooo may exclusions . Like:

If vet treats the horse and says to you to carry on the treatment , but then something goings wrong ie infection your not covered. If you don't notify them of injury before vet comes your not covered etc.

So that's what we doing Horsebox and car will remain on their books

I thought they were really sneaky calling themselves something different. I went through the whole process of form-filling online, was pleased with the quote, just about to press final button and then saw E&L right at the bottom of the page. Didn't bother as I've heard so many bad things about them

You don't necessarily get what you pay for.... but I too would never go near that company. I'm with rural brokered through world equestrian insurance services, plans are very flexible with regard to level of cover and excesses, also i've got 2 completely different horses on the one policy with them, did have 3! (but their old horse policy doesn't cover the same amount of stuff as petplan so moved that one now) you do have to wait a little while for the money to come in, but they do pay out, I've had about £6K paid out now, and they've covered 100% of hospitalisation too! So I cannot complain, they are very very competitive in comparison to some out there!
