I've tried searching for existing posts, but apparently the search term is too broad.

I'm currently comparing horse insurance quotes, and so far horse-insurance.co.uk is coming out at the best value, however I've not come across them before and I can't establish who the actual insurers are. Has anybody got any experience of using this company, good or bad?

Thanks,

No personal experience but these and E and L are the only 2 my vets wont make a direct claim with...

Take from that what you will, they did a direct claim for me with Animal Friends and they paid out very quickly!

Thanks - i've heard about the dreaded E&L, but I couldn't see that they were necessarily connected from the website.

Is there an alternative insurer that you would recommend? I'm currently with Petplan, but the renewal price has gone up quite a lot as my horse is now in a different insurance group.

I have both my horses insured with them as I also did not see it was E & L, I have two claims running with them at the moment for the same horse, the first claim took them over 3 months to accept they would pay, the second one they took just over a month to get back to me, they are just very slow and are hopeless on the phone, the premium for this horse has now doubled now I have claimed and the exclusions are endless, so I think when all this is over I think I will have a shop around for something better, they are crafty as E & L is only written in tiny letters at the bottom of the policy no other mention of them apart from this.

If you hit the 'contact us' button at the top of the website you will see E&L come up in the address bar.

I would highly recommend animal friends. They are cheap (Under £27 for vets fees, LOU etc a month, just no tack or lorry cover) and my boy suffered a respiratory attack this year. The insurance claim with scope etc went of on the Tuesday asking for £1400 or there abouts and it was in my vets bank account the following Monday - considering the time scale for postage as well I think that's pretty good! They've paid another £600 odd so far since then and I honestly haven't had to worry at all with them. They won't cover you for hunting or drag hunting though, or any dental work on the horse and only pay £12 to blood being taken (I had to pay an extra £5 on top of my excess but they paid for lab fees for it). Thats all I can get from their exclusions if I'm honest! But then I have a horse insured for £3000 as he's my lovely all rounder at 15 rising 16, will do a 1.10 course happily and is safe and sensible out xc and at hunter trials, will just about do a dressage test (albeit with a numpty rider) and spends most of his time plodding around on hacks and falling asleep in his stable given even half a chance...

There are a fair few out there. Try insureyourhorse.Co.UK and it also may be worth going through an insurance broker who can find the best deals for you via some companies who offer horse insurance but don't deal direct with the public (ie Rural Insurance or Towergate AIUA). Julie Andrews is a good broker to use for this as she specialises in this area.
