need to renew my insurance, NFU are far too expensive even though i do rate them. Got quotes between £40/month and £26/month from petplan, SEIB and Carridge house. Can anyone give me any feedback on the above 3 or suggest any others?

Thanks

A friend of mine used pet plan holly hocks and rates them, but another said they weren't the best at paying out and ppl on HHO didn't rate them :(

I had to change from NFU last year as well, renewal was ridiculous even though i'd never claimed, have changed to E & L, alot of people don't rate them but alot do....Hoping i'll never have to claim but they did offer a really good deal :)

I am with E&L - they do have a high excess on their vet fees (17.5%) but the premiums are cheap and they were all i could afford when i first took out the policy. They have paid out no problem at all for me so far so i cant complain really.

Do a search this has been discussed on here many times . I have found pet plan and more recently seib excellent and e&l like many very difficult and unwilling to pay. Also ask your vet they to get to know who creates problems

Speak to NFU and show them your like for like policies that you are getting in!

I bet they would be more than willing to match the price!

Give them another chance!!!!!

NFU don't seem to be interested in the Horse Insurance side of things now. I'd been with them for years with horse insurance. I also have other things insured with them but they wouldn't budge on the ridiculous renewal premium quoted & I couldn't remember the last time I ever made a claim.

It appears that E&L are starting to pay out a few claims now, it's nice to hear but I believe there are far more unhappy clients than content ones on there books. Before insuring with them do a search & see what the majority of their clients feel. There has been more adverse threads on this company than any other!

The other companies mentioned in this thread are all reputable, just compare their prices & what their cove is as they will all differ slightly. :)

Stoneways were absolutely amazing with Nitty's hock claim. Never quibbled over anything, paid every bill I sent them within a week and were lovely to deal with on the phone when I was stressing!

I meant to write to them to tell them this but I never got round to it. I should do it. They really were that good! :D

They aren't super cheap but still less than NFU.

BH is actually with KBIS but haven't claimed for him so don't know what they're like

Oh i got a quote from NFU and nearly fell off my seat!! was £46 a month! petplan were £28 or something.

my friend swears by NFU, has always been with them and always had good experience with them, another friend however was with them and had her horse put down, which they did pay out for, however when she came to insure the new horse with them they wouldnt cover it for what the old horse was pts for!! madness!!

altho same for petplan, some people say its really good and others have had bad experiences.

I think they are all much of a muchness, I would go with the one that has the best cost per month for you :D

I love petplan - they paid out LOADS! for horse and cat!

I struggled to justify their last premium...I was with them for 9 years but switched to Stoneways. They use the same insurers to underwrite as petplan.

Of so far

Sorry to post hijack, but that's very good to hear as i'm just about to lodge a claim for just under £3k, :)

Oh £3k is a drop in the ocean compared to what I've claimed

£6500 for tooth surgery and sinus problems (I had to pay £1500 as over £5k limit)
£3k for removal of bone chip from fetlock
£5k (or thereabouts) for diagnosis and treatment for spavin, navicular and PSLD - all the lameness workups, tildren treatment, and shockwave therapy, and a full body scintigraphy scan.
They have been nothing but polite and helpful to me. For all the claims they paid out in a couple of weeks apart from the last one at Glasgow Vet School, but that was because it was for so many conditions, they wanted a breakdown of cost for each ailment so they could do a claim for each. So that took over two months.
I think the horse now has more exclusions on than what it is actually covered for!

Good grief sounds like your poor horse really has been through the mills, hope he/she is ok now.

Did you have to get prior approval for any of those treatments/examinations or did you just do them and then put the claim in.

I phoned them immediately after the first vet visit but the trip to the horsepital was all rather urgent and rushed and forgot to get approval for it so just took her there, I got a bit worried after that I didn't get prior approval and whether they may chuck the claim out, hopefully they won't otherwise i'll be paying this off for a while
