From what I have seen on forums and through personal experience, dont go near e&l if you want piece of mind. The most popular and reliable ones seem to be- NFU (by a majority) Carriagehouse and SIEB.

DO NOT TOUCH E+L, don't care whether this is defamatory, it needs to be said.

Petpan have been brill for us, and they also have this cool thing where if you want to have a go competing or doing something in the next policy group up, you don't have to pay extra, just inform them and you are covered for three times!

E & L have been subject of more posts of people complaining regarding them either failing to pay out, drawing out any claim for months, or simply refusing to pay than any other company. I know of vets that consider you to be uninsured if you are covered by E&L & you will need to settle up their bill & try & reclaim from E&L.

I insure both mine with NFU & on the occasions I have had to claim they have been great.....my house & contents is also insured through them.

Another vote for NFU

my vet will make u pay your bill then claim back from E&L coz they take so long.
A friend of mine had a £7k claim with them, went on for over a year, they then phoned her to say the building had burnt down and she needed to restart the claim!!

I got a really good quote from Amtrust Equine and read really good reviews on the forum, with another company at the mo and not happy taking a long time to pay my claim, will def go with Amtrust at renewal.

I'm with Petplan and they are fine so far, out of interest did you have a good experience with Petplan?

I just found them(petplan) expensive, Thankfully I have never had to make a claim for horses only dogs im With "more than" for dogs and they paid out straightaway wish they did horses.

Thanks for all your opinions going to go and try ringing NFU now,
I had a good quote from Horse-insurance.co. anybody been with them?

Horse- Insurance is E&L in disguise so steer well clear if i were you.

I am with AmTrust Equine and always find them helpful and competitive.

NFU! Some other insurance companies are a bit cheeky about paying out...like if your horse needs emergency treatment/op and you don't tell them first they won't pay ... not the first thing on your mind when ur pony is poorly!!

NFU! I insured my mare with them when I got her last May. Had to make a claim in August and they settled with my vets within a few months. I didnt think they were the speediest but NFU did tell me they were snowed under with claims at the time.

My mum has since insured her new pups with them.

KBIS, my competition horse died suddenly last December and he was insured for a large amount of money, I had the cheque in my hand 10 days later.
I used to be insured with SEIB and when i lost my horse it took a long time for them to pay out.
DO NOT TOUCH E&L WITH A BARGE POLE!!!!
