Can anyone recommend good horse insurance. Been given quotes from many companies such as, KBIS, Petplan, AIMS etc, but just wondered if anyone could recommend a company they have had no problems with?

Petplan.

Arab mare is only insured for vet fees, I pay £22 a month.

I first insured her March 2009 when I bought her

In just over a year we had

sept 09 £5000 for a severe leg injury
oct 09 £1200 for Pastern dermatitis
March 10 £500 for sarcoids
March 10 further £250 for pastern dermatitis
Sept 10 £5000 for colic surgery

All paid out no quibbles, although Mare was vetted when I purchased her and they had a copy of the vetting.

I would have to disagree on petplan. They quibbled over my claim for about £200, and kept sending back the form and making me re do them. Did pay out in end but then put massive exclusions on my pony and increased premiums. I had paid much more in premiums than they paid me back. So decided not to renew.

Would have highly recommended NFU in the past always been fantastic and easy to deal with.

BUT this seems to have changed, they were funny about a claim this year wanting extra information (different from in the past) and they only just paid out this week for bills from last summer!!

I've also heard that their premiums have recently gone sky high. So will probably be moving this year.

I would say seib as they where great with my mare BUT had my colt insured with them ,paying over £450 a year and they did not pay out for 1 bill in the 2 years he was insured with them , they wriggled out of everything , lamness investergation ,navic treatment , post castration problems the list goes on (very accident prone colt). I may just be unlucky but it left a bitter taste and i wont use them ever again
I am going to use NFU next it think

Im with NFU but I must admit find then expensive, its a little under £50 a month for my TB, not sure why, age maybe? He is 13. Another company wanted £6 a month but as he is over 12 it wouldnt cover vets. Humm think I will keep trying as we now have a second to add on and I need to keep costs down

Stoneleigh Insurance, been BRILLIANT for my boy. I did it all over the net to set up.

Within the first three weeks of cover, I claimed, he slipped in the field, made awful squeal, ended up being bone spavin, paid out for everything for the whole year. Was £25 per month, gone up to £35, but ofcourse both back legs are excluded as he has arthritus in them now.

Hope this helps

Iv always been with petplan and claimed LOU with them always paid out no problems. But just got a quote of them for my new one OMG 1100 over ten months with LOU cant afford that no way not with three others to insure

I've always been with NFU as everywhere else has been much dearer and for a lot little cover. NFU's basic package covers pretty much everything so you dont have to worry about making sure your covered but obviously they can make sure of that for you. I'm £32 a month for my cob at £2500 incl. loss of use and vets fees and loss of animal. Hope this helps.
