Horse Insurance - What do you do?

I've just discovered that my insurance renewed back in June & due to various factors, I missed this. My current premiums are just over £40 a month & whilst I wouldn't want to be not insured for vet fee's... it does seem a lot for what is essentially a happy hacking, with a few lessons thrown in, pet!

I've asked for a copy of the insurance to be sent out,as I don't currently have a copy & obviously when I view the policy I can see exactly what cover I have - but he's only insured for a £1,000 & wondering if there were any 'extra's' I have that I may not need.

What do other people insure for? My biggest concern is vet's fee's & personal/legal cover if he causes an accident or any damage ...

I have my loan boy covered for up to £3000 in vets fees and he is insured for £2000. I've not got cover for tack or LOU (hes a happy hacker so it'd be pretty hard to get a lou claim through and pushed the premium up loads). This is with KBIS and costs £24 a month!

I pay about £4.50 a month for BHS public liability insurance so i'm covered for accidents etc :)
 
That's interesting - I have a feeling he is covered for LOU , which I'm not sure he needs and that might reduce the premium.

I'm wondering if it would be cheaper for some cover through the BHS and reduce what he's insured for on his policy.

Who are you with, if you don't mind me asking?
 
cut out death, LOU and tack if you have it and want to lose it. My young native is now insured for only £2.5K vets fees on a pony plan from AmTrust (£149 pa) and all 3 have PL through the BHS. Veteran is on external injury only (£90pa)-neither will have anything extensive done on them if required.

at £40 a month there is no way LOU is included ... it would be twice as much.
 
I have 60% LOU for v close to £40pcm, insured for substantially more than OP's, £5k vets, extra for colic surgery, few other things can't recall atm but no PL as have that elsewhere. KBIS again.
 
All of my horses are insured with PetPlan for £5k vet fees. They are all insured for the least amount which is £250, apart from my youngster who is insured for the price of the covering fee,as Im more concerned about the vet fees than what I will get back when they die. The premium varies on their age, but its between £13 to £35.
