Who would you recommend and how much do you currently pay? I have my rider insurance with NFU currently. The horse is a 12yr young cob gelding who is used for light hacking and odd jump. Not sure of his value but he is being vetted this week.

I'm with AmTrust Equine and they are superb, would recommend 100%. I pay about £30 a month I think.
NFU also have a good reputation but the quote they gave me was a LOT higher than AmTrusts.

Amtrust quote was over £400. Not so bothered about cost, obviously want value for money but more concerned about cover available. Thanks all. Will avoid eandl!

All of mine are with Petplan who are quick and have always been very good with my claims. All my neds are insured for eventing and average about 45/50 each a month but all have full Loss of Use and tack etc. my pony is about 20 a month but she is now on vet plan. They are prob one of the more expensive but have been brill and I wouldnt swap

Cant complain about NFU, they have been great for me and my recent vet claims. Probably not the cheapest but the quality is good. To be honest, never looked elsewhere.

I've had no probs with E & L. They're just a bit slow but they do pay up. And they pay the vet direct which is handy. Means you don't have to find money you dont have then wait ages to get it back!

Another vote for amtrust here as well. I would never use eandl again after a horrible experience with them. Amtrust were excellent when i had to have my mare pts, cant fault them. Really lovely people to deal with too.

My vet considers being insured with E&L along the same lines as having NO insurance. I am with NFU and have not complaints. Thewy will also pay the vet direct.

Whichever insurance company you decide to go with give them your horses stable name, passport name, microchip or freezemark number at quote stage and ask if the horse has ever been insured with them before? You're not asking for any detailed information covered under the data protection act but I was recently stung by a company mentioned here who had insured my horse previously with another owner and rejected her claim for loss of use and said they would never have insured the horse but did!

The Financial Ombudsman are currently investigating and the insurance company in question have changed their telephone quotation questions as a result!!!!!!!
