i have at last found my new horse last night after much travelling and searching and then heartache at finding perfect one but having doubts about her feet and soundness (am paranoid about lameness after last horse)so decided not to buy her,
I have now found one. He is just down the road!!! - have paid deposit and vetting is next week.

so arranging insurance.......
I was with scottish equestrian insurance but they are expensive. Was looking to shop around for new one, so any sugggestions as to good and bad ones-
have had quote off animal friends - they seem reasonable - but want to know if anyone uses them and are they cheap for a reason like ones with e in their name followed by an l !!

petplan seem expensive
stoneways also seem reasonable price - anyone got them?

thanks :)

Unfortunately horse insurance is very expensive. I have been with NFU & Scottish Equestrian in the past and currently with Scottish Equestrian. I had to drop loss of use to get my premium affordable. I think NFU are under written by Pet plan which seems to be ok.

Check who underwrites any policy you are looking at as I have heard that E&L underwrite for some companies.

All I can say is that I am with SEIB and so far had not had to make a claim (touch wood) so not much use really.

I have always heard Petplan, (good have dog with them) SEIB and NFU are good ones. Sorry have not heard your two ones.

Horse Insurance, like many other insurances have increased over the last few years. I'm with NFU & they have always been good to deal with, even though I haven't claimed for a few years now.

As many on here will say, try any of the main insurers for a quote but beware of E&L & their subsiduaries as they have had more adverse comment on this forum than any other company. :(

yes doing without loss of use as very expensive, Scottish equestrian have been good with my previous horse but they keep putting it up and now works out alot. may try them too as been with them -

Really? That's the first time I've heard that. I'm not sure that they are

Anyway, I would really recommend NFU, they've had to pay out a small fortune in various claims for one of mine, and have always been fab!

Personally, if spending any amount of money on a horse then I WOULD insure for LOU; it's the only way I'm going to be able to buy another quality horse now my lovely girl is broken. I'd be screwed without that on my policy!

I use SEIB for all my hunters and they are fairly reasonable. I've had to make one claim and they were fantastic, paid the vet bill straight away no messing about would highly recommend them.....

NFU have always been brilliant at paying out for claims (trailer damage, vet fees and loss of horse).

I also like their policy where they don't exclude entire legs etc if you have a problem. For example my mare has a scar on her leg from an old injury. They would pay out on the leg as long as the scar wasn't a contributing factor (which it never would be, it's only cosmetic).

I think all companies should follow suit.
