Can any one recommend horse insurance that is good?i have just had my new one and it has gone up alot with nfu,i dont like e & l so if any one has some good reports on others please can you let me know.

I've been with NFU for over 4 years now and they offer long term customers who stay with them a discount, so although mine is maybe a little more than say petplan, with my discount I can't get a better quote, I'm up to 12% discount now and I get 15% next year when I go over five years, just soemthing to think about, haven't had much experience with any others apart from E&L and agree with you to stay well clear.

Really thats nuts mine went up by about £26 this year but with the dicount brings it back down by more than that

KBIS theyre excellent i have my horse insured with them, i thought i was going to claim last week and they sent me the forms out asap and no hassle, but in the end i didnt need to :)

My YO & OH both use KBIS as well for their horses, yard insurance, and teaching insurance as well.

big thanks to all for info looks like will have to try shop about, but i know nfu r good just wish it wasnt so much.

Massive vote for Amtrust Equine from me. Pretty good value in terms of premium, but more importantly they're fantastic to deal with should you be unlucky enough to have to claim. Really knowledgable and sympathetic people and as fair as it's possible to be.

I won't be moving companies...

My NFU quote nearly doubled in May from £36 a month to £60  I had been with them for 4 years and hadn't claimed in the last 2 years. I went to KBIS as they got really good reports on here and gave me a very good quote and cover that I could tailor to what I wanted.

Glad people are rating KBIS, i was looking on there for my stallion....to me it just seems too cheap like there is something underlying so that when u claim BAM it goes up next year or an extra excess? This insurance stuff baffles me.I am just wanting to hack out so which grade of cover would u suggest for those who have been with KBIS?

I am with Allianz via Stoneways. They are the insurer behind Petplan Equine, but going with them this way was cheaper :D
I didn't go for the PL cover - from memory, this brought the quote down a bit, you get this through BHS gold membership so no need to have it from Allianz too.

I was with NFU for 14 years and my premium went up by over £250 this time, no claims for over two years. Got a nice letter saying as you've been a loyal customer you have saved £80  Gone to SEIB and its cheaper than before NFU hoiked up the price for exactly the same cover. I have heard that KBIS are very good as well.

Ditto this ^^^^^^ If you're a gold member of BHS you wont need PL on your insurance as it's included in your membership. On my insurance policy it was £68 so saved myself a little bit of money, just enough for a bottle of wine or 2..............

I switched from NFU to Petplan. The amount I am now paying with Petplan is £10 a month less than NFU wanted to continue insurance with them, which I think shows you how much they were trying to put it up by! (this is WITH my discount for being with them for 7 years and having not had a claim for several years!) Only downside is the number of exclusions they've now slapped on (although apparently some of them eg colic and one for skin lesions can be removed with a vet report)
