Just phoned around to get some quotes for horse insurance and tried NFU on the recommendation of you lot. However, I probably spoke to the biggest **** ever. First off all I couldn't have a horse because my name was Mandy and that wasn't posh enough, he got arsey when I said I didn't want to be on any mailing list, then I couldn't insure my horse the amount I wanted to - made him speak to his manager - and yes I could actually. It was then a lot more expensive than anyone else. So I said no thanks, to which he replied but we are the only recommended horse insurer in the country. AS IF. I did ask if that was the case why didn't the BHS, BSJA etc use them as their insurers - he couldn't answer that one.

So, has anyone used E&L?

Does anyone use Stoneways?

Thanks

Don't be put off by one idiot. As above ring your local branch or if that is what you did ring your next nearest branch. Mine are certainly excellent.

What a shame that you spoke to such a wally.

Wouldn't put me off though I'm afraid. I would never use another company now, and am totally prepared to pay a higher premium to be with them.

If it's any good I spoke to the lovely Ross Hales - try asking for him? He's been very helpful with my NFU quotes over the past few days!

I don't want to insure for vet fees, just in case it dies or kills someone.

I would have thought even if I phoned the local office I would still get the same quote as the head office - which is £60 more than stoneways

You can get an online quote from SEIB.....and you get 3rd Party liability anyway as you're a member of the BSJA

Stoneways have a funny system of what you pay on claims tho. Its not a fixed fee as with Petplan or NFu its a % of what the bill is.

So best to check the excess of claims before you decide. £60 might seem a lot extra but think of what it could cost you in excess with stoneways

I didnt go with them as they charged way too much for what I wanted, and there weren't enough options. It seemed to be all or notning, and the rep I spoke to found the fact I was insuring a shetty v. amusing. It felt like he was taking the mickey.
I use SEIB, they're great, much cheaper prices and more choice over what's included. G has full insurance and I pay half of what NFU wanted.

Katy - i think we might have spoken to the same guy. He started off before I had even said anything about how expensive H&H was and then why wasn't my name Porsche?

There seems to be an idiot in that office who is causing problems with customers & furthermore doesn't know his subject. I've always had great service from NFU, very helpful & understanding & no problems with any claim. From various other forum users they seem to have similar experiences

The cheapest insurer is not necessary a good saving in the end when you have a claim to make......take E&L, I rest my case.

Cancel policy today. Take out one with someone else.

Their rep is not great.

i've found Equestrian Direct very good and knowledgable but best of all they pay up without a fuss. Which in my book is why you have insurance

Im with Equestrian direct as well and found them to be very good. Easy to speak to listen to your needs and actualy know what they are talking about.
Was with NFU for last horse, got very funny when I had to put in a genuine, but rather large, claim. Took months to sort out and if it wasnt for my vet taking the claim over and dealing with it I would have fallen to bits as I was in a mess about my boy being in so much pain, didnt need NFU adding to my troubles.
Do not touch E and L they are terrible. Also Pet plan are good but if you event or do any sort of cross country I think you have to insure class two rather than one, and that will put your costs up.

I've found someone who has had two claims paid by E&L has all her horses (4) insured by them and wouldn't hear of changing to another company!!
