Can anyone recommend horse insurance and who not to go with (obviously not E&L/horseinsurance.co.uk!!)

Horse would have a 5 stage vetting so would be LOU as well

I would not go with e&l , be careful when you get insurance I read on a artical in the bhs book that someone's horse had mild colic and the vet only attend once just for pain killer ,no operation ,they did not mention this to there insurance which was e&l and because it says in small print that any medical issue inc mild colic that is seen by vet needs to be clarified to insurance , the horse dropped down dead in stable 2 yrs after and because the lack of information about the mild colic given , they would not pay out . So do not go with e&l

Petplan paid out for me last year without much fuss when I lost my horse and had massive vets bills. There was a bit of a paperwork wrangle at one point but I think any insurer would have queried a few of the details (vet messed up the report and clinical history docs they submitted - they managed to send clinical history for both my horses but it looked like it was all for the one that had died - made a huge difference to whether I was entitled to a payout!!!), but it all got sorted out in the end and they paid out in full.

I have 1 horse fully insured with them now (expect for TP liability and rider insurance which I have through BHS) and the price is competitive.

Ive had good and bad with E&L.....but have got one of my other girls with Scottish equestrian as a friend said they were great with hers. X

Can recommend Petplan and AIMS. Both have paid out without quibble for me over the years. Had a terrible experience with E&L. They will pull every trick in the book not to pay out and you need to spend hours chasing them up repeatedly.

I had a hassle with E&L. An 8 year old mare went hopping 3 legged lame on me in the near fore, after bute, box rest etc she was no better so vet nerve blocked whole leg - STILL lame, she went to the vets for scans, xrays, nothing wrong and STILL lame. She came home, and then all of a sudden came sound. Literally she'd spent about 4 weeks being on 3 legs, and then she was fine. E&L paid out after a scrap with the vets because they couldn't explain it and then they promptly excluded ALL lameness! 6 years later the horse has not been lame since. All very odd but ultra annoying having all lameness excluded!

definitely recommend scottish equestrian theyv paid out a lot of money for my mare and been really prompt and very helpful
