I'm with SEIB. They paid out on all three claims including medicating the back, hocks, coffin joints, SI and a scoping for ulcers. It came to £3800 but then wouldn't cover me for vets fees or third party for the following year, I have no idea why. The third party didn't matter as I was already covered through BHS but I thought under £4k wasn't an excessive amount when my last horse had over £35K spent on him over the years and I was still covered for vets fees albeit with a number of exclusions, that was with SEIB so their underwriters must have changed their criteria.

When I queried it with SEIB they said it was because of the number of claims and not the amount spent which I thought was a bit unfair as I've never encountered that before. Since then a number of friends have said that their insurance company continue to cover for vets fees despite how many claims they make. So I personally wouldn't use SEIB again for the next horse.

NFU and Petplan have always paid out on previous horses, I was really unlucky and heartbreakingly lost four horses in a row severe laceration ridden accident, broken leg, heart attack, wobblers syndrome and they always paid out for each horses treatment/euthanasia.

Thank you sorry to hear about your horses ❤️
Will they still insure me if they’re based in north and I’m in south?

Hi K&J. Thank you, it was a horrific 7 years, same thing happened to my friend only she lost 3 in a row, all natural causes again. Sometimes you just get bad luck.

Yes they will insure you wherever you are in the country. Lari went on sales livery for a period and I rang them up to tell them his change of address in case something happened to him whilst he was away and they weren't bothered about his change of address even though it may have changed the risk. I was still the owner.

Thank you so much ☺️ I’ve been lucky so far with my two Judys enjoying her retirement but I’ve had barry for 6 months or so and I swear he has a vet out every month ??‍♀️
Barry is looking like he’s gonna be a vet problem but hoping he will come out of it

If the horse already has quite a bit of vet history be prepared for higher premiums/ several exclusions on the policy as they will request vet records.
I use Julie Andrew’s as a broker, seem to get competitive quotes without too much annoying legwork

I’m bringing my horse over from London shortly and will likely be going with Coggins. They have comparable policies to my UK ?? one which covers some vet stuff
