Hi does anyone have any recommendations in insurance for a grass kept horse covering vets fees and public liability and personal accident please? Current insurer has put price up again and it just seems to be getting so expensive considering the horse isn't even actually in work anymore. TIA

Have you tried speaking to someone like Shearwater? I no longer insure but when I did i was with them. They are brokers so can tailor the insurance to fit your needs. They used to be very helpful.

The Harry Hall One Club seems to offer quite competitive horse insurance as an add on.

When I got my previous quote from a 'reputable' insurance company, I took a sharp intake of breath then a step back and changed companies. I insured with E&Ls latest insurance name, I think it is called Horse Emporium or something. Better still, last week I got my renewal through and it was the same as last year, which was half the quote from the 'better' company. I got other quotes and they were half what most were charging.

I took the leap as many people on here said they had claimed with them and it had been painless and prompt. On this year's renewal I see that say they belong to Elico (from memory), a company who supply low cost horse products.

I haven't had cause to contact them (yet!) so can't give a personal view on their claims procedure.

ETA - This is who I went with...

I looked at that, but it only offered accidental accident with an add on for colic (which someone said was really for acute operations rather than a lingering one) but, for BH, I wanted one where I would be able to do investigations on anything that showed up. Harry Hall was a lot cheaper, and I am also a member on their 3rd party only cover.

I used E and L for over 30 years. Always paid claims no question. I had to move to the insurance emporium as E and L don't offer veteran horse vets fees. They were by far the cheapest. Most other quotes came in at more than double.
