Horse insurance

My 2 horses have hardly got anything covered under the insurance now so was thinking can you get liability and accident cover for them, does anyone have any idea how much it is a month roughly as I'm currently paying £140 a month for 2 and they wouldn't pay the last claim.

So I thought I would save money each month and I have a credit card to pay for vets treatment if need be.

Does anyone do this?

World Horse welfare do a policy, £160 a year I think liability and external accidental injury for a few horses.

.I'm on SEIBs veteran policy at about £30 a month. I added extras like tack and wanted a higher cover so WHW didn't work for me and when added pushed the price much higher than the headline price for Harry Hall. however they may be more cost effective for multiple horses.

However i did see that SEIB have just brought out a new core option which looks cheaper and comparable cover to whw.

I was recently in the same boat. I've taken out BHS Gold & started putting money aside along with a credit card for now.

I've gone with Harry Hall Gold plus for 2 horses, one aged 20, one younger but has had a few issues, so neither worth traditional insurance. A total of £ 270 ish a year gives me PL, PA etc and £3000 accidental external injury vet fees

I do this with Polly. Both the girls insurance went up massively this year, so I cancelled Polly’s and have a credit card set aside for stuff within reason. Anything major and I’m afraid she will be going over the bridge (she has various other issues).
I still have Millie insured at the moment.

Old Dobbin has always been third party liability plus rider personal accident. Been with NFU for over 20 years, currently paying under £9 per month.

As I understand it, it covers external wounds whether in field, stable , hacking, schooling or competing (mine still compete affiliated and HH covers this too)

So the accidental injury does that cover accidents in the field.

It's usually phrased as accidental external injury but no restrictions on when/where. I've claimed for stitching/antibiotics/x-rays etc for a field injury no problem.

I also made a claim for when my horse slipped and banged his head. This caused bleeding in the eye but because you could see there had been a fall and you could see a scrape, they covered the eye too. That was a slightly more difficult one to claim in that it required a letter from the vet stating it was as a result of a blow but they paid up.

What you wouldn't be covered for is if the horse slipped and pulled a tendon or ligament but I think you would if damage was the result of a kick with clear bruising.

Now my lad is retired and about 30, I cancelled his insurance, but because I ride a friend's Pony, I joined BHS gold so as to have some cover for hacking.
