my 4 year old is quite close behind, and he has started plaiting with his hind legs but as a result his coronet band is being rubbed by him is there anything i can do to improve him/help him?

The stronger he gets the more improved his gait will be and thus he should slowly stop plaiting, or it should at least reduce. Maybe if he's backed and in work you could pop a sausage boot on to limit any damage to his coronet band :)

and check how he is shod as well. Echo the sausage boot - I turn mine out and always work him in them. Judging by the rate at which he is dispatching them, he is still cutting in behind so I do hope he will grow out of it!

Many youngsters do this when they are still developing muscle.

As he is worked more and becomes fitter the muscle should build up and the plaiting reduce.

As above posters have said a sausage boot will help reduce the problem along with sensible schooling and fittening work.

If the problem persists then have a chiro look at him - plaiting is also a sign of a back injury. If you know he has slipped over at anytime it is worth having the back looked at.
