Horse kicked me in the field

I remember seeing a riderless pony hurtling towards a cattle grid after the rider had fallen off at a Pony Club Rally and the pony just cleared the whole thing! As you say, a heart stopping moment.

I have seen a pony and tiny rider trot across a cattle grid instead of going through the open gate. The child did not realise there was a grid. Pony negotiated it easily with each hoof placed on a rung. You would probably have heard the collective sigh of relief a mile away.

My philosophy has always been that there are very many predictable accidents that can happen with horses/humans.
I try to allow for as amny s possible, feeding in the field if more than one horse is among them, but still, one knows that an entirely unpredictable incident could occur. I am not, however, going to add wheel barrows in fields to my list of predictables! My main bug bear is horses with head collars which are not field safe types left on in fields.
