About a month ago i was riding out with a friend on her new horse and it suddenly out of nowhere double barrelled and got my leg full on. I think if it had hit my horse it would have broken his rib! It was awfull and i can still hear the thwack now. I looked down after absorbing the pain.....ahhhhhhhhh and saw my leg had a big dent above my knee.
We got back to the yard and i had a look, didnt look nice some how it had a big cut and was numb over a large area.
Anyway i was pleased with the healing over the next week, then the cut got a bit iinfected and finally the cut healed over. Now i am left with a big scar and the area is solid, lumpy and numb. Today it was aching and i have felt sick and nausious. what is going on anyone else had similar experience??? please tell. Thinking of going to docs.....should have earlier i suppose.

I got a kick in a similar place, I went to hospitial and they said if it had of been two inches lower it would of shattered my knee!

After about a weeks worth of pain killers and rest I was back on board. I was only 14 at the time, the same pony also bit my boob! That left a scar.

I would go to the doctor, just for a check.

interesting i just think its wierd how i have been ok a now its playing up. i dread to think wot it looks like inside. did ur bruising spread all over ur leg?

Same thing happened to me when i was on my pony many years ago - I remember seeing the hooves hit my knee twice! Fortunately only badly bruised though.

If you're feeling ill it may be worth going to see your doc though as could be some infection still in there and you may need some antibiotics to clear it up. Best to be on the safe side I reckon.

well a few years ago...like 4 or 5.....I was out riding with my college lecturer, me on her horse her on a livery and the livery horse just double barrelled for no reason and caught me smack on my right shin with his near hind...I heard the crack too...not nice

...managed to get to the yard and was helped down from the 17.3hh horse I was riding and sat in the yard office with my Jods round my ankles and an ice pack out of the first aid kit on my shin...(which was a nice purple shade with a perfect shoe shape cut on my shin)

I never went to hospital or Doctors and it is numb with a lovely shoe shape scar!!! Not much help but yes Ive had a similar injury!

oh dear its still numb after that long? i was hoping that would go! sounds familliar i was sat in our tea room with my jods down and ice......nice ey.

Same sort of thing happened to me 7 years ago, lower down my leg, whilst at work. Got back to yard(it happened out hacking) and leg was twice the usual size from knee downwards.we were short staffed that week as 2 other girls on hols, so boss (who shall remain nameless) proceeded to bandage leg tightly and stand me in school, lunging horses I was supposed to be riding.

Gave me some pain killers, said it was just badly bruised. After a week, yes a week!, of hobbling around in extreme agony and actually throwing up from the pain, boss reluctantly took me to hospital. ankle was broken in 4 places and by then needed pining together as had started to heal funny with me walking on it!!!!!now have lovely big scar and a very stiff ankle! totally pointless story, sorry not meant to make you feel worse - just it still annoys me to this day!!!

mine was lower leg on the fleshy bit toward the inside
frown.gif
,mine too got infected and the pain was unbearable...went back to docs and had it lanced
crazy.gif
,took a long time to heal properly and took yrs for me to get any feeling back in the area(i too had a cavity in my leg were the infection had eaten away my muscle etc
frown.gif
),have a great scar were i had hole in my leg, skin was a purply colour for a long long time but is now back to normal
smile.gif
Never had any pain after the infection was dealt with, maybe a wise move to visit the doc
smile.gif
just to check it over again

Good grief, we are all the same aren't we?

About 9 years ago I got kicked below the knee because I allowed my horse to get too close to the one in front. I saw it coming, but couldn't get out the way in time.
Anyway, I said ooya and continued riding. When I got back to the yard I had a lump below my knee that looked like I had a spare pair of socks rolled up inside my jods.
It was a huge lump, but interestingly, not terribly painful.
The bruising spread in an impressive pattern, seeping down under the skin to the sole of my foot.
It was a terrible mess, and I took great delight in showing it to all my nursing colleagues who went "eeewwww, put it away!"
I had no sensation around the injury for months and kneeling was downright impossible.
Even today I have disrupted sensation to the area, and although I never got it x-rayed, I'm pretty sure I cracked my tibia.

So, I would say get your leg looked at. however, since it's been a month since your injury, I don't think the emergency services will have anything to offer!:o

I didn't get kicked but back in March George accidently trod on my leg after I fell off right on my shin, it went black and blue and had a huge lump on it, that has gone now but it is still numb in places. Oh what are we like!

I haven't been kicked but from the sound of it you have done some serious damage to your leg

Please, please go to either your Doctor or your local A&E tomorrow and get it checked out. Nausea and sickness is IMO a sign of infection and needs to be sorted sooner rather than later

I got kicked just above the knee but on the side of my leg, I was side on to the horse and he launched himself at me - he was a known kicker so I was quite a distance away from him.

The force knocked me to the floor and made me feel quite ill. It didn't break the skin but I had a massive bruise. This was about 11/12 years ago and I still have a hoof shaped scar where he kicked me - he didn't even have shoes on. I guess it beats getting a horseshoe tattoo!!!

Mine didn't kick me, she's too angelic for that. However, she did decide to bugger off after seeing a couple of really scary binbags and threw herself through a tiny gap by a big fat metal gate.
Obviously being clever, she had the good sense to breathe in and get her belly past, but didn't spare a thought for my leg and managed to crush it between gut and gatepost. It hurt quite a lot, bruised my entire lower leg and foot and seems to have left a sort of 'chip' shaped dent in my shin (although I don't press too hard cos it still hurts) That was about three months ago. I don't dare go to the doctors - what happens if I'd bust it and he says I can't ride for three months?

Over 10 years ago now I was leading a pony in from a field and I stupidly was in fron of it going down a bank and it jumped down and landed with a hoof at the bottom of my calf.

It didn't break the skin but the pain and buising was horrendous!

To this day it is still a hard, numb section within my muscle.

I would go to the docs and get checked out but I wouldn't hold out much hope for all the sensation to return.

Go to the doctors and see what they say! You pay your taxes, may as well get something back for it

Sounds like a possible infected haematoma ( like a large collection of blood in your muscle/tissues- forms a clot-) usually your body breaks it down, but sometimes it can become infected....that may be why you are feeling sick and nauseous- have you checked your temp?

Book in and see a GP or NP today, failing that go to a/e.

I came off mine about 3 years ago and as she cantered off, stood on my knee. Wasn't anything too obvious at the time - pain, a bit of swelling etc - didn't go to the doctors.
After 3 years the pain started reoccuring and now I need an arthroscopy to remove the shattered bits of cartlidge in my knee!! Definitely get it checked out!!

get yourself to A&E
according to mum who is a nurse says your symptoms sound like you have a deep infection in your leg probably caused by a haematoma under the injury that has gotten infected. if it is allowed to continue on it can do damage to your bones.
its 2 hours wasted in a&e if it is nothing, potential to do serious permanant damage to your leg if you dont go and it is something.
