Horse killed in Bridgwater June 2011

Printed where? (Although I must confess I either missed this when it happened or enough time has elapsed that I dont remember)
Am sorry for your loss though. Must have been a very traumatic time.

Just want to say that anyone who wants to deliberatly drive into their wife's lover's horse, seems completely at liberty to do so. Even if it's not actually his horse and he's just riding it out for the owner.
Even if there are witnesses. Just get a good barrister.
Oh, and if you DO get a temporary ban- just carry on driving; even if your'e reported three times the police won't bother you.

I'm moaning because I just typed out a long update on this terrible murder (because that's what it was) and the post wasn't printed.

The ******* got a 'slap on the wrist' - as I knew he would.

God, no way! I'm the owner of the horse - well, pony actually;she was only 14.1 and was ridden out by man who kept his ponies on our farm.

How awful! The law in this country stinks it all relies on who can afford the best lawyer and who can lie the best !
Justice is rarely done

I know what I would do too!! But wouldn't post it on a forum. Why do people have to involve innocent animals in their revenge. What had the horse done to anyone :(

Maybe it was a computer or HHo malfunction!

Whatever happened to your pony sounds bl**dy awful though!!!

My sentiments entirely. Thanks everyone. I won't mention the driver's name yet, in case we are able to appeal. His trial was cancelled and the hearing took place behind closed doors, we were informed yesterday.
His 'punishment'? Dangerous driving downgraded to 'careless' driving, a £300 fine and 6 penalty points. An insult to the pony's memory.

is there nothing you can do? maybe start a petition? this is just awful

How can deliberately driving into someone - whether mounted or not- be considered to be anything other than dangerous?

OP, I'm so sorry about the loss of your pony.

Hardly careless driving, he was intent on doing damage the fact that there was an animal involved never seems to count for anything:confused:

I know it is not the point but do drivers that cause the death or injury in incidents such as this pay the owners in any way for the value of the animal, will insurance pay out?
Nothing will make up for the loss but it seems the punishment is so far from fitting the crime that hitting them in the pocket would hurt more as they never seem to pay in any other way.

That's the strange thing - his insurers admitted liability and are paying out everything we asked for. That seems like an admission of guilt to me, so I can't understand the stupid punishment.......

Even if nobody cares about your poor pony, there was a rider on board who was injured. If they were intentionally driven into, why is it not attempted murder?!
I don't understand this country's justice system :(

That punishment is a joke. In my mind if the driver deliberately drove into a horse and rider then there is a clear intent to cause harm to them! How can that be deemed careless rather than dangerous?
The only thing I can think of is were they wearing hi viz? As I'm sure I read somewhere that if you're not, obviously you're harder to see so drivers have some kind of lee-way where they can say they didn't see you, so that could have been used in his defence?

I'm making a start by writing to Crown Court to demand answers. Also to the CPS, and to the Hackney Carriage licensing people at the local council.

I hope he will at least find it hard to continue driving his taxi now, I certainly think he should not be allowed to drive one, with such a temper he is a danger to any person who may be in a car with him.

You're right, no hi viz, so he could have used that. But even the police acknowledged at the time that it was deliberate. It all boils down to spending money on a barrister. The rider is supposed to be taking out a private prosecution, but any info we have is now sketchy - we hardly know what's going on.
But who knows what might happen? The driver now has a lot of enemies around here...

How disgusting that he is getting away with it...well pretty much! What a pathetic sentence.

As someone else mentioned he tried to cause harm to a human too! If they wont look after the ponies interests (the only completely innocent party) then why are they not punishing him for trying to hurt the bloke riding? Somebody capable of this needs to be assessed.

It's all quite confusing. It seems simple to me - he should have been accused of attempted murder or abh or something. But we don't see the rider anymore, so don't know what he's doing. The last time I saw him he'd met with a lawyer and was supposed to be taking out a private prosecution.
I'm afraid I have no faith at all in our legal system - I can't understand why the police didn't press for more serious charges.

But look how they 'punish' paedos and murderers - they're usually back on the street in 5 minutes.
