My local hunt were coming home, back to the boxes, on monday evening. As it was already dark they were coming home across the fields. One girl got off to do a gate, and her horse got away from her. It galloped away, across a field and through an open gate onto a busy road.
It collided with a car travelling at a fair speed, Hit the passenger side, and rolled over the roof. The driver would not have seen it, and had no chance to stop.
The horse shattered it's shoulder and broke a front leg. It was shot very shortly afterwards.

Luckily the driver was not hurt, but is very shaken.
My thoughts are with those directly involved, and all those who witnessed it.

This is why I no longer go out hacking anymore - my horse did get away from me last year on a hack and bolted down a road (luckily nothing came past), amazingly he was caught before he was killed or possibly could have killed someone else. My worst nightmare.
