Horse knocking water over in stable!!

My gelding either picks the bucket up in his mouth and throws it or puts his feet in it if he can’t pick it up. He gets turned out during the day and has likits and toys to play with in his stable. I have tried putting the bucket in one tyre, two tyres and even three tyres! Tried putting bricks in the bottom, buckets that are flat along the top, tying the bucket to a ring on the wall and tried rigid buckets instead of rubber ones. Anymore ideas? Want to try automatic waterers but we don’t have running water, could it still be possible with a large tank of water outside? Help!

Don't put a bucket on the floor. Screw a corner waterer into the wall and fill that.

I had one like this. I used the white corner mangers designed for feed. They are plenty big enough for water and heavy enough not to be uprooted.

We had one on the yard that was a nightmare for this, he had an automatic drinker but would rip it off the walls and flood the stable. Buckets on the floor got emptied and flung over the door, even feed buckets with food in them. In the end we got the flat backed ones and hung them up at door height, that was the only thing that worked for him.

I have the flat backed ones hung off the wall, only I’m paranoid about clip injuries so mine has a chain running down to a carabina on either side that clips to the bucket so they can’t open it accidentally.

Charlie horse had to have his padlocked to the wall. If it was just clipped he would still somehow get it off!!

We used huge trugs so they were difficult to tip once a handle was padlocked on.

Heavy stone planter/trough? You wouldn't be able to clean it as easily, but he certainly wouldn't be able to pick it up haha!

Yep my horse does this. It got to the point where I was threatning to chuck the water all over the floor for her and give her a straw!

I've found that a masive tub trug, full to the brim works well. Bonus being I only have to do her water every to days

I use the Paxton automatic plastic corner water drinkers.

As long as there is water nearby they are easy to install using 20mm or 25mm blue plastic water pipes and fittings.

I had one like this in the past
I tried one of the blue barrels cut in half, filled with water and large slabs, still tipped it over and would find it outside the stable!
The only thing that stopped him in the end was the Stubbs corner manger

Could you try a small metal trough of the sort you might find in a field?
