I have a very laidback polish warmblood which is lovely except at competitions when I feel that she is lacking a bit of buzz! Particularly during the xc phase when I feel like I'm working harder then her!

Anyone tried any of the Xtra Boost paste or Propell plus? Anyone else have any other ideas?

Thanks!

Id put her on a high spec vit & min supplement if she isnt already on it, but make sure it has a good level of B vits and iron as well as lacking these can make them a bit lethargic. Ive heard people have had luck with "Event" paste stuff, never tried it myself.

ahh... my hanoverian cross polish warmblood is the same... i love it... until we get somewhere that requires some effort on his behalf...

i wonder if it's their breeding? i always thought warmbloods were meant to be fizzy... perhaps polish ones are laid back? x

Is she out at grass 24 hours? If so, bring her in at night, this should make her more energetic.

Alternatively, tiger oats or blood liquid just before and after a competition.

I have known a lot of lazy warmbloods.

iv just put my tb on soya oil for more stamina as when im schooling he starts to go abit flat and stuffy. so might work with yours. £9 for 5 litres

Alpha a oil works on my laid back chap, sometimes too well!
Tried pro-pell plus and did not have any effect at all.
Good luck!

What level are you competing at and how often do you compete? In the summer weather are you supplementing with Electrolytes?
Is your horse out overnight, if so might be an idea to bring it in the night before an event so that it can rest during the night rather than during the day, then again it might be a typical Polish warmblood and prefer to rest day and night. I've competed Polish horses straight off grass and stacked full of oats etc. and nothing really made a difference.
Would be useful to know your mares age, workload and current condition.

i use competition mix on my horse as he used to stort of stop dead after the jump like he had no energy to go over the next one wheich through me off balance but he's great now a bit too fizzy when jumping but i like him that way as i dont feel bad working him hard since he has enough energy to do it and with him being an irish draught they are ususally laid back lol
