Badgers so called best stable buddy has turned evil, looks like he has given him a hard time in the field last night. :( He's got about 6 chunks out of him, three on one side on his bum and 3 on the other side towards the top of his shoulder, about 6 inch down from his withers.

He is ok in walk but quite obviously lame in trot on his front leg on the poorly shoulder side. I can't find any heat/swelling/marks on his leg, do you think he would be lame from his shoulder even though it's so high up? I'm hoping he's just feeling sore and will be ok in a few days.

What do you think?

If he's lame and you can't see anything obvious then I'd get the vet out. Better safe than sorry! Even if the vet just tells you to bute and rest him for a couple of weeks, I'd rather get him checked out ASAP.

I am not one for calling out a vet but having had 2 fractures in the past 2 years... if you cant see anything obvious and hes still lame... I would be calling a vet ! My old fella had a cut over his eye that turned out to be a cracked eye socket... and a cut to his shin that was a spiral fracture - just from a scuffle with his field mate.

Not suggesting there is anything ominous but if hes lame with just a few teeth marks on him, I would be talking to a vet sooner rather than later. Hope hes ok xx

Thanks. I haven't seen him yet today but mum brought him in and said she thought he looked sound. Will see how he is later, may have stiffened up again by then.

can't cope with anymore vets bills!!!
