Hello, my horse has been barefoot for about 6 months now (shoes off soon as I got him) and he coped fine, was only a tad sensitive for about a week and in that time he was out on long hacks over gravel etc! didn't bother him at all. Nail holes grew out and feet have never been a problem apart from when he trod on a sharp stone and went very lame with bruising for a week.
On Monday he had his feet done , although I didn't think they were long- another horse had thrown a shoe and thought they could do with being shaped while the farrier was here. When he had finished I thought they looked a bit short and upright and when lead out to the field he shuffled a bit.
Next day I schooled him and he felt a bit funny- Then noticed his head starting to bob and videoed him so I could have a better look, he wasn't moving in an outline and was uncomfortable and then when I turned left he was really obviously limping on his left fore. Got off straight away and checked him over- no heat or swelling anywhere- pressed down on tendons (like vets showed me to for DDFT possibly injury) and no response.
I left him out and today he was uncomfortable on concrete but sound on the grass .
Any ideas if it could be soreness from the trim? Or something else? and if so what do I do about it. thanks for reading
