My mare went lame a couple of weeks ago for around 8 days. She had heat in her front left lower leg. I kept her on box rest for the 8 days - the lameness had gone by around day 6 but there was still heat until day 8. Day 9 the heat had gone and she wasn't lame so we turned her back out into the field and she was fine.

I gave her 6 days off and then rode her in the arena, mostly walking and she was sound. I done the same the day after and again she was fine. She had the last two days off, but when I went up again tonight she isn't 100% sound and there is a small amount of heat in her leg again. YO said they were running riot in the field today and she had dry sweat over her when I went up tonight.

YO thinks she has twisted or bruised it initially and then recovered, but the running around today has brought it back.

I haven't had the vet out as she had come sound. I think I will see how she is over the weekend and if there is no improvement, then get the vet to have a look.

Do you think this is more than a bruise/twist? She is otherwise in great health and has never been lame before.

could be a lot of different things! if she was lame and has charged around, so might have caused damage to whatever was making her lame before?

Where in her leg was the heat? is there any swelling?

She was sound when she was charging around today, she has been sound for the past 8-9 days. It wasn't until I rode tonight that she didn't feel quite right. She isn't hopping lame, but not sound either. I trotted her up and the lameness wasn't really noticeable but there is a slight heat in her front left tendon area. I haven't noticed any swelling.

I just hope it is nothing serious, I am a bit of a worrier and over thinker!
