Asking for some one who isn't on here.
The horse came in this morning sound. Has been in for 8 hours. Came out of the box really quite lame on the right hind. Putting the toe down first. this did not get any better with a few minutes walking. The horse is shod and was last shod 3 weeks ago. Picked out feet and checked the frog thoroughly and found nothing. No heat in the leg but slightly filled just above the fetlock. Resting the leg when stood still.
Vet will be coming tomorrow if still the same but wondered if anyone else had experienced this and what the cause had been?

Heel pain. Abscess.

Call farrier not vet, if you have to call anyone, they generally dig a much smaller hole!

Is your horse feathered? A heel crack that 's got infected will cause toe first landing and a filled leg.

Ok - sorry for late up date. Mare is TB so not feathered. Meant farrier (not vet) came out on Tuesday. Vet came on Thursday, in the end, and did flexion tests etc and found nothing conclusive. On bute for a week and reassess then. the mare is no longer landing toe first but is still not sound.
